OK we all know that each aircraft has it's own 'hell hole'

What is THE worst job you have experienced?

For mine - changing out the static inverter on a HS 748. No room to move, working blind (by feel) all this in the hot Aussie summer.

It's a bitch to grip tools while your hands are running with sweat.

... discuss ...

Anyone who ever worked phase dock on 111's will attest to this job. Lubing the wing sweep actuator. Nasty, Greasy, Hot, Confined And Very Cramped.

Rewiring the "Burndy Block" in either main wheel well of the F-106. The Burndy Block was a plug in the wet-wing fuel tank that had all the fuel quantity wiring for that tank going through it and it was either hiding behind hydraulic lines or the Hot Section Analyzer recorder depending on which of four blocks you had to work with. No room to work and nobody would remove hydraulic lines to make room.

Second worst job: any fuel quantity job on the F-106 where you had to open up a fuel tank. The dumbasses who designed the jet put the panels on the BOTTOM of the wing and used screws of varied lengths (with the same head size) to hold them in place. Nothing quite like a JP-4 bath in a Minot wintertime... Cold, wet, smelly, nasty, and prone to make one curse the designer of the "Ultimate Interceptor". Ahhh, those were the days!

How about removing a fuel control on ANY jet engine? (Installed or uninstalled)

Heavy; leaking fuel; lines in the way; WTF is still attached!?! Doh

if you open the speedbrakes on the F-16, there four bolts from the speedbrake actuator that held together with .042 safety wire. with the speedbrakes installed it took myself and three other 7 levels about 8 hours to do one. ive never been so frustrated in my life... i believe we took the speedbrakes off but it took an extra day till it was good. i hate tiger teams! I'd have to say that doing ANYTHING, during the winter and on the flightline, at Cannon is the worst. The winds on the High Plains of NM SUCK during the winter!!! BONECHILLING!

Never done the RCVV on top; haven't worked the UFC since Tech-School... Shrug Nice that it is on the bottom of the MFC for the PW-220/-229.

ANY fuel control has LOTS of safeties, and they're not always easy to get too. Best thing to do, is connect the lines closest to the control, torque, then safety, and work your way away from the control layer, by layer.

I know guys that have a hard time with the thrust mounts on the Viper. To me that's easy, lots of room in there! Slap

Anyone still know of a Safety Wire Practice Board that is still in use? Haven't seen one of those in decades!?! At first I hated that thing; we were made to safety it over and over, and OVER again... After a while it was fun to see who could do it the fastest. Cool It was a good way to kill time in a constructive manner and show-off for the "new" airmen...

TEG - Just funnin with ya! Very Happy We had to do it back in the dark past cuz, someone "forgot" to SW it prior to putting the UFC up (normally, pull it back down, re SW and start over on the reinstall)(they only "forget" once) very long time ago! Very Happy Rest is just sage advice in that's a good way to not forget anything by working your way out from the control! Very Happy
