That's an F-136, and probably not a flight destined engine.

The F135 has external barrels constructed of isogrid castings for strength and lightness...

I think they are actually chem-milled ducts.

Yes, PW started using "Chem-milled" ducts in the F100 series. The ducts are stronger and lighter than honeycomb, or simple stringer designs. In the F100, they are used for the forward and aft fan ducts, and the augmentor duct.

The "milling" is done by chemical and not mechanical process (Not done on a CMC machine...)

Here is a good explanation from Indiana Micro Etch, Inc; larger parts use the same process on a larger scale:
Quote:
Photo-Chemical Machining, also known as Photo-Fabrication, Photo Etching and Chemical Milling is a process with many technical and financial advantages in the manufacture of flat metal components. In the process, a precise photographic design is transferred onto a resist-coated flat metal surface and exposed to ultraviolet light. Chemical etching selectively dissolves the metal, leaving a precise reproduction of the original design. Since there are no mechanical forces applied to the metal, the final product is burr and stress free.

PW uses "chem-milled" ducts and components in the F119 as well as the F135.

Yes engines are quite impressive now a days. When compared to the jumo 004 at wright-patterson, the size and power of todays engines are remarkable! And yes the f135 posted above is beautiful as well...I need to quickly go look at some hot women really quick----> cant make my love of engines overcome that.

Does GE market their trademark like PW? Shrug

I have lots of PW patches; among other PW logo stuff. Wink

For all your PW merchandise needs: http://www.prattwhitneyproducts.com/

Specifically the PW "Thrust you can Trust" hat! Cool
(I'll be ordering it when I put away my stocking hat)

PW (and the people who work PWs in the field) have used the "Thrust you can Trust" motto for decades. I've seen it on shop walls, vehicles, signs, patches, decals, notebooks, coffee mugs, t-shirts, etc.

PS - I'll add a graphic I made a while back for another thread Wink
