EXtreme ACcuracy Tasked Ordinance (<a href="http://www.google.be/search?q=Extreme+Accuracy+Tasked+Ordinance" target="_new">google-it</a> yourself, please Wink )

I'm surprised this toy is (will be) just for snipers.. I see some interesting application even on M61A1 and GAU-12 .

Ah... Check who is developing this ordnance for DARPA.. Wink

Hasn't the U.S. Navy been working on something similar for their deck guns for over a decade now (at a larger calibur obviously)? With nothing to show for it no less, at least the Army's <a href="http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/munitions/m982-155.htm">Excalibur</a> seems to be on track, hopefully this research project will be successful as well.

Maybe it is time to retire the 5" gun and convert to the 155mm (6") with extended ranges beyond 30 km. (18.6 miles), ala Excalibur. Common round, common development, same job! Currently being deployed by both the US Army and Marines. A cheaper, more reliable ExcaliburII is under current development.

Perhaps consider replacing the SM-1 missile launchers on the Perry class frigates with NLOS-LS (PAM)! @640 Guided rockets in four 20' containers in the foredeck area. The PAM is armed with a large multi-mode warhead and is to be used primarily as an anti-armor weapon. It is powered by a novel variable-thrust solid-fueled rocket motor (by Aerojet General) and has a range of about 40 km (25 miles). PAM is equipped with a dual-mode UCIIR/SAL (Uncooled Imaging Infrared/Semi-Active Laser) seeker, including ATR (Automatic Target Recognition) technology. Therefore it can home on its target either autonomously or be guided to it by a forward laser designator. Thus the Perry's would become the favorite pets of the Marines.
Currently being deployed by the US Army, complements of FCS!

Good ideas Neptune! Hopefully the military is listening!
