| What are the physical differences between the two, more importantly, can a -38 be made to look like a -54. I'm attempting to build a 1/48 F-16 with -54's and only have -38's to work with. |

They have some slight differences:
GBU-38
GBU-54
SSgts. Michael Jackson and Anthony Bagen align a 500-pound GBU-54 Laser Joint Direct Attack Munition before connecting it to an F-16C at Balad AB on August 14th, 2008. Two F-16 pilots with the 77th EFS executed the first-ever combat employment of a GBU-54 on August 12th against a moving enemy vehicle in Diyala province to support a combined Iraqi army and USMC operation. Sgt. Bagen is a weapons load crew chief, Sgt. Jackson is a weapons load crewmember. |

Its pretty hard to tell actually, both are the same diameter, weight and length. One is JDAM and one is LJDAM.
Cheers,

| What you cant see in the picture is the Umbilical cover that runs nose to tail on the other side of the bomb. It is on the side that they are working on. |

Please note that the GBU-38s also sometimes comes with the DSU-33 noses that - in contrast to the GBU-54s - are white/gray.
Greetings,
Henrik. |

| Thanks for the info! My kid confirmed that. I can see the straps that keep the umbilical in place. My -38's (shull24)have the DSU-33 for the nose. I know they are either black or white/gray. I have to build a lead loadout version of the attached pic, so -54's are needed on st. 7. I also will drop the X's on stations 2 & 8 to be more realistic. |

| What do ya want built? I have 3 CJ's and 1 DJ in progress, all going to Japan/Balad once completed (13/14 FS). I think I've built just about everything F-16 in 1/48 and many 1/32 still in boxes, still love building em! I have alot of pics in the modeling forum. |

| Wow, Pop, I see a nice little side business getting started here. I would love a 16 painted up from my old unit, are you seriously considering taking custom orders? |
