That does not appear to be an F22 with the external stores to me. Looks more like an F15?

Check out this from earlier this year. External tanks on an operational intercept.

Weird, that pic happens to be my desktop background right now...

You should check out af.mil, they have tons of high-res photos.

And if you give our old pal Carlo a look you will find this gem...

That's why in "first day" scenarios they don't use any external stores. In a lot of ways pylons are the devil. Drag, stealth, weight.

We want our enemies to see us.!!!! Russian bombers getting intercepted by F-22's is what the bombers wanted to happen so they could get a look at it on radar. Never give out the goods before you have too....................NUT

If the pilots were on the ball, they were 'probably' using their radars in "legacy" mode, ie, one freq & no LPI.

Does the Raptor have hardpoints for one external store per wing or two? I've only ever seen pics of one but it looks like it could accomodate another.

The Raptor can mount two 5000lb rated hardpoints on each wing, but I read somewhere (could someone remind me where) that adding the second hardpoint stressed the wings more than expected. So most of the time you'll probably only see two one hardpoint per wing.

Actually it was mounting four external tanks that stressed to much...so they just don't do that. They can still mount four hardpoints on the Raptor.
