The team modified an aircraft tow bar in order to match it to the nose landing gear of the fighter. After reversing a pair of brackets on the bar, they moved the aircraft from the civilian to the military side of the airfield.
Sounds like they didn’t realize you have to disco the torque links and slide the pin into the right side of the axle on the NLG. I’m assuming the modification to the tow bar was fat pin on the left and small pin on the right after swapping the brackets on the universal tow bar. |

It doesn't surprise me that Baghdad wouldn't know the proper towing procedure. Having been there many times myself, I can assure you that there are no fighter assets there. Baghdad is strictly airlift and helos.
So, in this case, when the Viper came in IFE, you basically had a primitive animal, and a football...
What does surprise me, however, is why they didn't taxi the bird to a hammer-head, and then deploy an MRT from Balad with the proper equipment, before going through all the fun that they did? |

| Pilot must of got an engine warning lite (FTIT or RPM) as the nozzle isn't stuck in SEC for any other major engine issue? |

I don't recall the runway headings at BIAP, but heading west, the runway on the right was the civilian one where airlines and other traffic used, and the left one was military, where we had Hercs, -17s and all the other foreign military, why was the viper instructed to the Iraqi side? |

| We've had to land on the civvy side many times recently, due to some runway/taxiway maintenance on the military side. |

Left the hell hole last summer...
But one funny story I want to share with you TC, I am sure you know those giant aircraft maintenance hangars there. We did our Apache maintenance where there is a large parking area in front... So one dust-stormy night last year, they say a C-5 made an approach to that parking area, maybe confusing the parking area lights in low visibility... I was not there at the time but the way they tell me the story is hilarious, one guy ducks under a truck trailer, one says he saw the tires of C-5 like 10 feet above him, one goes out hiding under a helicopter... ... |
