The pilot can always see TGP video on his MFD when he selects it.
IR video is always grayscale, regardless of block. I have heard EO video is color on newer blocks and CCIP'd jets, but I can't verify that with firsthand experience. |

Thanks for your answers. May I ask what do these abbrevations like "TGP" or "EO" mean?
For some reason that Sniper link doesn't show a picture at all |

TGP = targeting pod
EO = electro optical (basically like a daytime camera) |

The AVTR system records color video on block 50's so your CTVS Hud video and MFD video records same colors you see in cockpit. I know first hand LANTIRN TGP video appears black and white (grayscale) on a block 50 post CCIP MFD. However I do not know about sniper/Lightning II pods. |

I just came across to this video andat 4:20 and 6:20 you can clearly see the greenish color. I do have to say that the plane on the video is a F/A-18D Hornet not F-16. Although hornet's mfd might be different than F-16's ones or am I right?

If it's a monochrome MFD it could care less about the signal being color or B/W. In most cases monochrome MFDs are green and that's what you see in the Hornet video. But if you look at that same video signal as recorded on the AVTR it'll be in whatever color that AVTR is designed to record. Some are grey scale only and others are full color, as specs said earlier.

That's 'cause the CCIP MFDs are full-color units. But the input video from the TGP is still grey scale, so that's what's displayed. |
