Im just curious would an F16 Block 52 armed with Amraams be able to take on a Su 30 with AA-12 Adder missiles? Im not too sure how the vipers radar and missile set up would compare to the Su30. Let me know your thoughts and reasoning.

Thanks

Su-30 is a big bird with a big radar, the real question is are you talking 1 on 1? Not all Su's have TWS capability, so in a 2v2 scenario, 2 Vipers could launch 4 AMRAAMs (one from each Viper at Each Su) and the Flankers could only launch 2 Missiles. Now I guess if you want to go all nuts you could say that the Sus could launch all 8 radar missiles at one target, but thats just silly and overkill....and fun sounding. With your scenario ECm may be a huge factor. I am sure both the adder and amraam have HOJ but then the pilot has to guess when he is in range doesn't he?

2 versus 2 scenario the F16 vectored in by Saab Erieye awacs aircraft. SU30s using their own radar both sets of aircraft launching two missiles each? Could it be a stalemate?? or would the Su30 prevail?

In terms of the AMRAAM and the Adder, I've read that the Adder has the superior range and agility of the two missiles. What about their tracking abilities, though? How does the AMRAAM's ability to track a target and deal with ECM compare with the Adder's ability to do the same?

Or perhaps the two missile types are close enough in capabilities that the tactics of the F-16 and Su-30 are a more important factor?

Adder-superior range? Agility? If that is what you choose to believe, don't let anyone here stop you.

hey, be nice, he said it what he read. If its true or not is largely dependant on the source he read it out of and the varient of the AMRAAM. the A model is not the same missile as the C7 or D. as for the scanario given by asianviper, I think the end result would be all four fighters going down in the long run.

Wikipedia is often written by contributors that don't have the correct facts. Just remember that when you are reading the info and trying to determine if it is or is not trust worthy. Some sections are very good but others...not so much.

The Scenario provided by asianviper could end up any number of ways. I choose to believe that if they were us Vipers then it would be two to zero, in our favor. However, only an opinion.

I just checked the Wiki statement,

"The R-77's main advantage over the AIM-120 AMRAAM is in range and maneuverability. The longer range is because the R-77 is a larger 200 mm vs 178 mm (8 vs 7 in), heavier 175 vs 150 kg (386 vs 335 lb) missile than the AMRAAM and contains more propellant. Like most AAM weapons, the claimed range is for a non-maneuvering target, at a high altitude, and probably on a head on aspect with a respectable closing rate. Lower altitudes, rear aspect, or maneuvering targets will all reduce this range, but the same applies to the AMRAAM.

The planned upgrade of the AIM-120, the AIM-120D, is to have a much greater (+50%) range and thus no-escape zone which will exceed that of the standard R-77 by a large margin. It is unknown how the AIM-120D will compare to the R-77M design in terms of range."

So its seems like its plausible that the Adder beats SOME variant of the AMRAAM, but which one is unknown and certainly not the D and they are NOT using the long range R-77 as a basis of comparison.

Hahahahahaha....

Well then...I guess size does matter.....

No, seriously the Adder, does not beat any Amraam, even if the almighty Wiki god says it does.

There is an old saying....very appropriate in today's age....Believe none of what you read and half of what you see.

Except for me of course. You can believe me. Wink

Just how good are russian air to air missiles in general?? How do they compare in general to american missile technology?

I believe that you can have all the range in the world but if the electronics and seeker heads are not upto the job you will always lose against an opponent with a shorter range missile with better hardware inside it.
Does the Block 52 have anything comparable to the IRST on the SU30?
