Thanks for the correction Smile

Jeff, sorry I didn't connect with you. I went on Friday at the last minute to avoid the crowd...

No problemo, Roscoe Smile I was there and working on Friday and my buddy didn't make it down this year. Hell, even I couldn't get into the chalet Wink

Great day for an airshow - unlike Sunday AM or after the T-Birds landed Razz

Yes you do disconnect the epu vavle and you also disconnect two plugs on the JFS manifold. I know this because we use to freak new guys out. There is a step when you go to start 1 and the JFS doors open up but nothing spools up. We use to freak them out by having them watch the JFS doors. We would tell them if the doors open up run like hell. I am going to talk to my friend who is still in because It might not be a direct FlCS power ops check. I am pretty confident it is though. the plugs I am refering to are the two plugs on the JFS manifold. I know for a fact I have seen the doors open up with out the JFS spooling up. I am gonna do some JFS research and see what i can find.

They've changed it to a shorting plug that connects to the ESS Controller, rather than disconnecting those two connectors to the JFS Manifold. I guess they are interchangeable? It's a pain to put that plug on if the jet is equipped with a LANTIRN or Sniper pod though...

If an ESS Controller is installed, you disconnect 8011P5/6 from the JFS manifold (as Specs stated) to prevent bottle depletion when Start 1/2 is selected during the "Engine NON-Operating" portion of the Direct FLCS ops check. With a Digital ESS Controller (DESSC) installed, you have to use the shorting plug on the aircraft side of the DESSC connector (8011P602?). The DESSC self-tests all the wires during the start sequence and will drop the switch from Start 1 or 2 if the JFS hyd manifold is disco'd, preventing completion of the ops check. The shorting plug simply fools the switch into staying latched and because the DESSC is disconnected, the JFS doesn't start.

I too have seen the doors close when the JFS is pumped up after a failed start, but I also know that with the JFS manifold disconnected the doors still open if Start 1 or 2 is selected (24-00-06). With just electrical power, how is this possible if the doors are hydraulically operated? Anyone know? I've never worked a door problem and would be interested to know.

Cheers!

I know the door operation has something to do with the JFS hydraulic fuse, but anything more and I would be guessing.

The JFS doors not being there has more to do with uniformity than anything else. Not a whole lot of no starts are caused by the doors. The real reason as I understand it is so when the crowd is watching them start, they don't see the JFS doors on the jets opening at different times. There's no way to make them all open at the same time, so they took them out. Nice pictures though.
