I spend a bunch of time here harassing crew chiefs about escoteric stuff on their jets, current and old for our model decal sheets, and without doubt there resides on this site one of the finest collection of people anywhere on the net.

The crew chiefs here have responded with immense ammounts of wonderful information, which allows us to accurately portray their jets.

We just got done with the primary art for 2 subjects that took better than 2 years researching. They are "history" sheets for both the 555th and 510th FS and contain markings for both units jets from various timeframes. It was a pretty huge task tracking down who's name was on which jet at one time in this scope.....I'm pretty sure nothing close has ever been attempted before in the decal world, and the results are due to the stellar help from a bunch of AV crew dawgs on this site.

The fact that you folks would take the time to help out speaks volumes about your mettle as people apart from your service to the United States. This is truly a terrific community and I am honored to have been able to talk with so many great people.

Daren Gunn....Daren crewed the Buzzards flagship 88-0413 for several years and was the target of many many requests for names/dates, but he always chimed right in. No way the dimes sheet happens without him.

Scott Kinnison and Paul Gelderloos - invaluable for the early era of the nickels, crewed balls 9 when it was a 555th jet.

Bob Blankenship - 88-0413 DCC

Ronnie Harris - Nickels avionis guru, fellow model geek.

Travis Brickweg - long time crew on the nickels flagship, 89-2035 and invaluable keeping the crew comings and going straight.

James Craig - 89-2039 DCC

Matthew Gililland - 89-2001 DCC

Brian Badovinac - 88-0541 DCC

Scott Terril - 89-2011 DCC

Josh Ziriak - 89-2047 DCC

Johnathan Chandler - crewed 89-2035

John Wilson - 89-2038 ADCC

James Lucas - 88-0510 current DCC (new buzzards flagship)

Again, these guys were just amazingly patient with my pendantic questions, and they deserve a hearty thank you, as do the guys who run this site and provide such a great resource and a gathering place for so many cool people!

Here's the results....nickels are being printed as we speak, buzzards are a spring print. The flagships are after that.

wow, these are quite the sheets. I'm sure the crew love having decals available for the jets they crewed.

Thanks Jon. No way this happens without you guys on the site and the folks who hang here. This was a special project, as there are no more important or historic viper units anywhere than the 2 AV squads. I've gotten to know quite a few of them from their leadership down, and they are just standout in every department.

1/48 for the time being, though I've always wanted to do 550 with the "Neon Chicken" in 1/32 and some of the OAF nose art jets would be wicked in 1/32....and I own a decal company Very Happy

You guys wre just amazing. Its a big deal from the history standpoint to get these markings correct. Aviano has an amazing operational history and I'm thrilled to try and preserve a little of the legacy of the wing. None of it could happen without guys like y'all.

ABDScott, Dude you are the decal Master. That sheet is above any and all decalsheets I've ever seen. And obviouslly more accurate than any ever made. My hat is off to you and all who contributed their info. Thumb
GREAT JOB !
