As you can see in this image the pylon for AIM-9 is different.
I'm sure I've read about it somewhere but forgot. ECM/Chaff storage? |

Isn’t a travel pod in the towed decoy an odd combination?
At the risk of violating OPSEC; I have a theory; is it so when a pilot is deployed on short notice TDY or upon returning that their spouse doesn’t shoot them down? j/k  |

| 2038!! Its always good to see my first bird. So many 12s but so much pride. Still my fave seeing how Ive crewed her all over the world. Can't say that for the rest of my jets. |

But I think it's still better than the superhornet's IR system.
