As you can see in this image the pylon for AIM-9 is different.
I'm sure I've read about it somewhere but forgot. ECM/Chaff storage?

If your refering to the back end of the launcher lets just say its for a "counter measure" and call it good.

Isn’t a travel pod in the towed decoy an odd combination?

At the risk of violating OPSEC; I have a theory; is it so when a pilot is deployed on short notice TDY or upon returning that their spouse doesn’t shoot them down? j/k Wink

The Towed Decoy system is part of the pylon itself and is there no matter what munition is loaded on the pylon.

2038!! Its always good to see my first bird. So many 12s but so much pride. Still my fave seeing how Ive crewed her all over the world. Can't say that for the rest of my jets.

But I think it's still better than the superhornet's IR system.
