TSgt. Rick Bain attaches a freshly-painted tailflash to F-16C block 42 #88-0520, the 162nd FW commander's F-16 on the flightline on November 1st, 2008. The panel features the unit mascot 'El Tigre', a jaguar native to the Sonoran desert. The roaring 'tigre' was painted by SSgt. Aaron Roop, a structural maintainer, and designed by SrA. Jonathan Rojas, a graphic artist assigned to the wing public affairs office. |

The big cat in question is actually a species of Jaguar that is native to the desert southwest. It is known as "El Tigre" to people of Northern Mexico and Native Americans in the Southwest. It is actually on the endangered species list, rarely seen and has only recently been spotted in southeastern Arizona. It is also the mascot of the 162nd FW Tucson. Boman,
Thanks for that site. I used to be in the 79th at Shaw so the tiger motto caught my attention. It also says on there The NTA is a gathering of units sharing a Tiger or big cat emblem, or heraldry in Europe. I guess that means the 35th at kunsan could also be considered a tiger unit? just a thought. Push it up!!! |

The TMOTA is founded on the NATO Tiger association, but offcourse located in the US due to the long distance in many cases to Europe.
I know there are observers sometimes from other Tiger/Big Cat squadrons from around the world, but not familiar with whether Asian countries have a similar arrangements. Same also for South America? |
