Here are the twin Tamiya CJ's I'm sending to desert for my son and a fellow pilot.

They have the typical desert load-out, except I left the pilot names on and kept the AIM 9-X's on 3 and 7. I will send them the L/H chin HTS pods when Shawn gets 'em done.

I have them placed on/in IMEX display cases.

Will there be any issues sending them to Balad via USPS?

Wow! Nice! You want to send them to the sandbox? You sure you want to do that? The only issues I see with it, is damage in shipping. Not to mention probable damage once in-country. And then they'll eventually come back right? So I say just send the pics, and say it'll be waiting for his return. But if you still want to send them, just pack them really, really, really, really well.

Well, They went via USPS a couple days ago! The twins were glued with .015 plastic rods to the IMEX base, then packed with plastic peanuts inside the display case-tight (with the vertical fin or canopy in a seperate plastic bag).
I taped a straw over the pitot tube. Put the cases back into their original boxes and then surrounded them with more foam peanuts at least two inches on each side of the mailing box. No movement at all when the box is shaken. My wife and I tossed the box to, or is it at, each other (shipping simulation). I'll keep you all informed of the results. Whistle

USPS comes through! The twins arrived in Balad a couple days ago. According to the pilots, the damage in shipping was minimal. One bird had only a broken pitot tube (even though I taped a straw to it) and the other had a broken L/H stabilator. Thats it! I sent some glue along and they were airwothy in a couple minutes Cheers

he already said he won't put it in a travel pod on the return to Misawa. They get free mailing out of Iraq, and he still has the popcorn!

Here's a couple pics of the next group of 4 Tamiya's, all have the desert loadout w/sniper & L/H HTS. 2 Hasegawa's almost completed. They are going to Japan, not the desert.

What did you use for a wash? It looks white.

I've been experimenting with some acrylic paint. this wash is a mixture of charcoal and white. It may be a little light on a couple jets. The lighter color really does stand out. Lets pretend they have been sitting in the desert for awhile!
