Hi,
I was reading about the CCIP upgrade and seems that all block40/42/50/52s will receive IFF, with 50/52s first and then 40/42s followed.
However I've never seen a pic with a block40/42 with bird slicers. Does that mean AIFF is not included for those?
Thanks! |

Skwabie,
No AIFF - AN/APX-113 or other - is installed on the Block-40/42s!! There was no finding for the AIFF system on those Blocks and although the ANG has their own funding there will be no AIFF on the Block-42s in Toledo, OH and Tulsa, OK either.
Greetings,
Henrik. |

Most (?) of the block 40/42 fleet is CCIP'd at this point, and the only external clues are the JHMCS sensor on the inside of the L side of the canopy. |

Hey thanks Henrik and AfterburnerDecalsScott. I'll pay more attention to the inside the canopy next time. |

The block 40/42 fleet will get the APX-119 to replace the -101 when they go to M5. The -119 will give them Mode S capabilty that conforms to Europe's upcoming requirements.
They never received the -113 for funding reasons. |

Thanks Viper_Spec,
Will the APX-119 have visible features like the "bird slicer" antennas of the APX-113??
Greetings,
Henrik. |

One could ponder how many blk 40/42 will be retired now, prematurely, before even going to M5/APX-119... for funding reasons. |

| I highly doubt that they would give them new engines (Block 42) and then retire them. Also i doubt that they would give them CCIP updates and then retire them. |

Henrik -
The APX-119 is essentially a "plug and play" system. All that will be changed is the IFF R/T and the panel in the cockpit. There will be no air-to-air interogation capability so there will be no bird slicers or any external identification. This new box just brings the IFF system up to 21 century technology and standards. |

The ANG will be funding Blk 40/42 aircraft with AIFF but it will be coupled in with other systems such as BLOS.

Actually that's incorrect. They will get APX-124 digital AIFF's with the new core software in M5.1+

ViperDude -
You are correct. They are similar units, just made by different manufacturers. |
