Help me out here....I have this wicked cool shot from "Sluggo" Hasara during Allied Force....."On The Prowl" is the art....its kinda tough to make out, but pretty cool. The tail # on the canopy says 89-2030, but here's the rub. This shot of 2030 is from 2000, some months after the war.....in the Allied Force shot, the camouflage demarcation doesn't line up with the one on the canopy, and in the later one they do.....and the bomb drops are not the same. I've never seen a shot of 2030 from the war....obviously it participated as its wearing drops, but comparatively, not that many.

Was 2030 down for a while during the war and "On The Prowl" wore its canopy? How prevalent is that? I know 053 was wearing a replacement canopy when it got its MiG in OAF.

Anybody know offhand if "On The Prowl" was 89-2030 or another tail?

Thanks!

I also found this here on the site....its earlier in OAF....bomb drops don't correspond in location with 2030 in the other shot, but they do with the one of "On The Prowl"

USAF F-16C 89-2030 block 40/42 510th FS caught on a rainy day. Note the large GEC-Marconi HUD optimised for night operations and the 11 bomb markings under the canopy

Neat photos Scott.

This is twice now you've come up with new nose art I haven't seen yet. Good job on digging these up. I spent a lot of time researching that last photo you emailed me with little luck.

Mission markings on 510th FS aircraft are hard to understand. I've heard that they put markings on based on bombs dropped not missions flown. Note that although total markings with a 'B' have not changed just more of the regular markings. Could it be OSW/ONW markings earned in the following years?

I was in the 23rd then working out of the Five & Dime at the time. They had to be bombs dropped not missions flown.......Not enough room for all the missions flown.

I believe the B is for drops over Bosnia - target was Serbian forces within Bosnia. If I recall history correct, most of the fighting was within Bosnia's borders, untill eventually the Serbs pulled/were forced out.

Sometimes you can find pictures of 510FS Vipers with Green bombs - these are missions done by 555FS crew in 510FS Vipers, and vice-verca.

I actually solved that one. "Avenge The Innocent" is 89-2046

Ha! I wuz right....."On The Prowl" was 88-0525 wearing 2030s canopy.

Jon, once I get the relevent slides scanned in and the buzzards sheet done, I'll send you all the stuff on the nose art jets from the 5 and dime.

Thanks Scott

Good job on getting this figured out, I love these mysteries. Thanks for thinking about us for photo sharing.

As we all know, canopy swapping is pretty common.

This is turning out to be a ton of fun actually....3 distinct styles of tail flashes, bunch of noseart I never knew existed. I'd give good folding green to run across Tommie Napier sometime....he'd make a terrific interview here.

Nickels are printing right now, Buzzards primary art/research is done, still hacking on the flagships. If anybody crewed 2137 during Allied Force, or the OSS jet at anytime, I'd love to hear from you!

Scott The "B" Stands for BOSNIA. Some of the decals had to be replaced within the 4 years between Bosnia and Allied force.
