Hey everyone, had a question come across that I could not even begin to answer. Of the 4400+ F-16's produced, how many were not built in Fort Worth with either GD or LM Aero?

That is a lot more than I ever considered. Which countries are licensed to build the 16? Are they still in production outside of the U.S?

The first two countries ever to produce the F-16 were Belgium and The Netherlands. They were part of the original consortium. Production in those two countries was finished in 1992 and 1993 respectively. The third country to ever build F-16s was Turkey. Production was finished there, but will be resumed for a new batch of 30 F-16s for the Turkish Air Force. The last country - so far - to produce F-16s was South Korea. Production has ceased there as well. A major production contract could be when India should decide to buy the F-16 in the future. But we'll see if that happens.

While at Hahn in the early 80's, we had several "B's" show up that were built by SABCA. We were not sure at the time that those jets had ever flown in the U.S. yet or not.

AFAIK, Israel imports all of their birds, but retrofits them with Israeli avionics, and other combat-related equipment. It would make sense, because Israel also carries Israeli-made weapons on their jets.

Who manufactured the F-16's for Denmark and Norway, Fokker (Netherlands), SABCA (Belgium) or General Dynamics (USA)?

Majority of Danish F-16s were produced by SABCA and the last batch of 12 by Fokker. Denmark puchased some second-hand examples in the nineties, build by General Dynamics. Norwegian F-16s were build by Fokker except for the last two, they were build by General Dynamics. And indeed, as tbarlow states, a couple of USAF F-16s were build by SABCA and Fokker as well.

I knew there were non LM/GD built F-16's, but I had no idea that any might be flown by USAF. Any idea of serials or how you can distinguish these from US produced jets?

Try the <a href="index.php?module=f16serials&func=advanced_search">Advanced Search in our F-16 Aircraft Database</a>:
If you select Built by: SABCA" and "Airforce: USAF", you get 4 USAF F-16s built by SABCA in Belgium.

SABCA built 4 "B's" for the USAF:
82-1031
82-1035
82-1036
82-1039
We could not tell the difference between a GD or SABCA bird looking at them them from a distance. |
