I've got a decal sceet for a DS1 jet "85-1420" (Code one candy).

What I don't have is any refrences other than what's in the data base here. Anyone have any pics ?

And also, what would be a realistic loadout for this jet during that timeperiod.

And last. Did the Arkansas ANG fly during any conflict and if so, where and what kind of missions ? (still thinking loadout).

That jet was with us as part of the 363TFW during DS. We ran a couple of different loads, but here are the main two and then take your choice - they would all be correct.

1st week we flew: 2x Aim 9L, 2 x MK84, Wing tanks and ECM. This was due in part to our mission and the distance we needed to fly.

Majority of the missions were flown as: 2x Aim9L, 4 x MK84 and ECM. Tanks were deleted in preference to more weapons. We launched from UAE, hit a tanker and then on target - instead of returning to UAE for reload, we did ICT's at a forward location. Jets returned home at night.

We did fly some mk82 missions and some CBU missions - these were rare - some of the CBU missions were "propoganda bombs".

I'd suggest the 4 x MK84 loadout if your kit came with enough mk84's. Its quite a unique load - one that you don't see very often on a F16. Not sure how much you know about the F16, so please don't be offended at my next statement - when flying 4 x mk84, pylons/bomb are mounted where the fuel tanks would normally be installed.

Look in this photo gallery for several pics of DS loadouts: http://www.f-16.net/gallery_item42421.html

the USAF's solution to un-employment.

This GUW (guy under the wing) has some shortcomings though.. very short weapons range, and it imposes very strickt speed restrictions on the jet.

Hello Scanor,

I sounds interesting with Your Viper project!! Remember that the Shaw units at the time of "Desert Storm" flew AN/ALQ-119 pods for ECM.

Greetings,

Henrik.

Scanor, the AR ANG flew in 1995 furing the conflict over the former Yugoslavia with Block-15 Vipers out of Aviano AB, Italy. THey flew with AIM-120As on sta. 1/9, AIM-9Ms on sta. 2/8, Mk. 82s on sta. 3/7, 370 gallon wing tanks and a AN/ALQ-184 (short) on the center line.

After converting to Block-32s in 2001 the 184th FS / 188th FW has been in the Gulf area some times now.

'Operation Southern Watch':

Prince Sultan AB, Saudi Arabia (October 24th, 2002 to December of 2002).
Replaced the 186th FS / 120th FW from Montana and carried four - six AIM-120s, two AIM-9Ms, wing tanks and an AN/ALQ-184 (Long) on the center line.

http://www.f-16.net/gallery_item91940.html

Although the Saudi goverment prevented offensive missions by deployed US air force units taking place from their country (hence no bombs - all air to air) at this time ANG F-16 units inc. the AR ANG carried a LITENING TGP on sta. 5R.

'Operation Iraqi Freedom':

Balad AB, Iraq (May of 2005 to September of 2005). Deployed with the 111th FS / 147th FW from the Texas ANG as well as the 179th FS / 148th FW from Minnesota - both flying Block-25 aircraft.

This deployment saw the full use of the LITENING TGPs, GBU-12/-38s, wing tip mounted AIM-120s and - on occation - the AN/ASQ-11 TARS reece pod on the center line.

GBU-12s were often "slant two" mounted on TER-9As. GBU-38s were carried as a dingle bomb opposite to the GBU-12s - often on sta. 7.

At this time the TARS reece pod was carried along with a LITENING pod!!

Hope it helps.

Greetings,

Henrik.

Outstanding, sounds like that last one will be my option this time.

I have to get the jet done in about a week from now for a competition and I dont have any MK 84 or 84's in my stash. So I'l have to go for the GBU option.

I got the basic jet sorted, I take it the block 32's had scabplates on. think I got some somware. Looking forward to this. Havent done a "hot" F-16 in a while .

Thanx a mill guys Very Happy
