I'm sure this has already been started but I cant find anything on it. I'm looking for anything "unusual". From A-10s coming back with weeds hanging off them to Armament troops throwing BDU-33s with spotting charges off the third story balcony in the dorms. Sorry if I'm starting something that has already been posted.

| Nope. Nothing happened on our shift. Why. Did something happen? Wow? Really? Nope. Don't know nothing about it. |

I heard stories from my dad back in the 70's about one of there f-100's that took out a "501 foot Cactus" with wing tip out in vegas.
I guess when he got back he realized how bad it was cause he had to change flight suits. And it was a 501 ft cactus cause the deck was 500. So you can guess how low he really was. If i can find a picture of it i will post it cause dad has one some where.
if that is what ur talking about |

I saw an F-105 bring back tree limbs and telephone wire after the pilot got "target fixation" and managed to fly the jet through three trees and a telephone pole.
The jet survived. The pilot survived. The pilot's flight suit did not survive after he got out and saw the damage. They said it didn't smell too good after that...
That jet, 61-0170, was forever known as "Thunder Axe" and even had as its nose art an axe swinging through the three trees and the telephone pole. |

I would love to get my hands on a BDU-33 minus the spotting charge
I think it would make for an insteresting game of catch. |

Sixer, was the Thud that had the hot round cook off in the mag at the range near Shaw in your unit? Pops told me about it several years later. IIRC, it was a D model. Anyway, he made a strafing pass on the range, when a hot round exploded inside of the ammo mag. The round blew the nose off of the jet, and then some of the FOD took out the engine.
The pilot punched out, and he made it. |

At Shaw many years ago a pilot took his jet through some trees out in Manchester Forest and actually recovered it, but at McEntire. We went out to see it, and the whole intake was pale green. Astonishing that he made it back. Apparently he got disoriented and flew just about straight down through the clouds. When he broke out, he saw the trees and honked back on the stick. His wingman unfortunately was not able to and impacted the ground. I will never forget that pale green intake.
Best Regards, |

| We had a Skunk strike on landing on a F-16 back at Luke in 84 or 85. NO ONE wanted to recover that aircraft. But I had the joy of having that aircraft park right next to mine. Happy,Happy, Joy,Joy. I wanted to puke everytime I took a breath. |

Hill was famous for the WULP (Wild Utah Leaping Pine) trees that grew around there.
There were cartoons of anti-WULP missliles (AIM-9 with a chainsaw blade on the front) floating around, I'll have to try and did them up....
We also had someone breaking into dorm rooms when folks were at work, during a commanders call, the commander suggested that if we found the person responsible to bring him to the commanders office, and if he happened for fall down the stairs a couple of times before he got there, that would a shame... The "break-ins" stopped.....

I heard of pilots sraffing monkeys with A-7's in Panama back in the 70's
I heard a Welsh farmer wanted to sue one of our pilots because his sheep went infertile after an F-111E low pass over one of his fields?
A UFO landed @ Bentwaters when I was there

The right wing of an EC-121 removing the vertical stabs of off a couple of F-4's that were in the arm / de-arm area at Korat. Someone drew a cartoon, it did happen. |
