| Would you be interested in making a PC simulation with this? |

Hi everybody,
I'm making the transition to a much better 3D modeling system. ("modo", from Luxolgy.com) In order to greatly improve the quality of my F-22 project as well as my other models.
Latest updates, including some renderings of the model, after importing into the new software, are at http://www.mikejamesmedia.com/f_22_edits_14.html
It's going to take a while to get over the "what button to push" phase, but then, I'll have a much more accurate and clean model. |

I've recently upgraded my 3D software to a package called "modo". ( http://www.luxology.com ) and am back to the F-22 now, which will become much better, thanks to the new tools. Here are a couple of images of the model "modo-ized", and a render of the beginnings of a cockpit I'm building.
Have fun. (Latest updates are at http://www.mikejamesmedia.com/f_22_edits_14.html ) |

Here are a few new renderings, with the exterior looking very close, and a little more work on the interior. (That will take a while!)
Enjoy. |

| I've added the panel lines for all the doors and vents that were on the previous model, but now in my new software. ("modo") Quite an improvement, in my opinion. Still a long way to go, but it's looking right. |

Looks great...what are your plans for this? FlightGear really needs an F-22 model....it would be real nice if it were usable (flyable ) in FlightGear. I'm working on the FDM and control system model now. |

| It would be reeeeaaaal nice if you could fly this on Falcon 4: Allied Force. I'd pay for the software. |

So Tinito, that's a real nice idea. Is F4 currently open source? What I like about F4 over FlightGear is that it already exists as a combat sim. |

I am not sure but I think third-party software has been developed for F4 and there are some downloads that let you fly other a/c. I'm somewhat new with this cause I just don't have the time to fully inmmerse myself, but I think it can be done.
On a similar note (and as an example), I had Jane's F/A-18, which team super hornet (http://tsh.war-fighters.net/) added to. I think you could even fly the A-10 with one of their mods. I had the panoramic cockpit view, it was pretty cool. |

Hi everybody,
Thanks to my new tools, this model is improving.
I've separated all the landing gear doors and weapons bay doors, so they can be animated later. The cockpit detail is coming along slowly. To add some realism, I took a stock "full male figure", bent it around enough to fit it in the cockpit, and added a simple sub-d'd helmet. You don't want to see that up close, just yet... The figure was simply colored a "flight suit green" color, but has no clothes. I'm new to character modeling, so I'll come back to that later.
A few more simple textures have been added, such as the "screen" effect on some of the vents, and some chrome on the landing gear oleo struts. For those of you who are familiar with the aircraft, you might notice that I've started to model some of the exterior bumps and depressions, like those around the gun door. |

| How are you liking modo, what did you use previously and how do you feel they compare? |

I am LOVING modo! I've used the variations of a piece of software now called "Carrara Studio" for over 10 years, so the transition to a new way of working did cause me some temporary brain damage.
But... My opinion is that modo has the best modeling tools around. It's just a matter of getting used to a different interface, and a different (and much better) way of working. I'm only a modo newbie (about 30 days) but can see that in the future, the quality of my models will go way up, while the time required to make the will be less.
Check it out at http://www.luxology.com (lots of free video tutorials you can look at, to get an idea of how the software works. The ones by Andy Brown are, in my opinion, the best.) |
