Has anyone tried to do this conversion?

If so, what did you do, and what was the result? Pictures?

Seriously considering "offering" one for such a conversion, but need some input before making the final decision

Looking forward to hear from you all Very Happy

Actually have one in the works.

I made a 32nd MLU (USAF 584) for a former Crew Chief a couple years ago, just after the T-Bird kit came out. It wasn't that hard, as I used a major modified CE tail and had to backdate the wheels to the early Block 30 wheels, which I actually have Masters of now.

For the conversion I am on now, the vertical tail and the base plate (which was the main obstacle) are near done. I still need to accomplish most of the scribing and figure out if I want to have the RW antennas cast separate of with the parabrake.

Were you going to market this yourself, or through another vender? Let me know, else we could work out something if you're doing this on your own.

I want to put in my wish list of TGP and NAV pods in 1/32 scale. Please someone needs to jump back into these after the last guy gave up.

Thanks Mike - was only planning this for my own pleasure, just needing some input on how and what to correct. Oh, and in 1/48 BTW Wink

Planned on using the Wolfpack-D WP48006 parachute housing as base, with the top fin from Tamiya. The major challenge is to fill the triangle that is on the forefront of the C-tail base, and finding a way to round off the square tailbase of todays C-model.
Edit: By this I mean the aft upper body of the model, not the C-tail itself.

I read a hint by another Norwegian on these pages that one could fill the flat area with Evergreen, then cut and round to the correct shape to make a proper base for the new tailbase.
The rest of the MLU-parts of the Blk 25/32 in either scale should be OK. Might require some rescribing at various places, but this is the least of my concerns with this type of conversion.
The important thing is to get the base for the new tail right.

Making a fillet filler for a single or one's own conversion is actually quite an easy task. I think it took about 30-40 minutes of adding card stock and a chunk for the fore triangle dorsal tip, then some shaping. Making a fillet as a resin peice, is another game and more complex.

Remove some of the late Block features, fill in (not much rescribing) various pane lines, and you're there. Also, depending on the era, you might need the early Block 1-32 wheels, which we'll be releasing not too long after the Nationals.

Another addition I will be including are the NLG door LAND/TAXI light aseembly and the search light for those models that have it.

ACMI-Guy;

We have planned 32nd and 48th LANTIRN/Trageting Pods, as well as LITENING, down the road though.
There will most likely be corrected intake, exhaust, gear doors, wheels, NLG torque links, and vertical tail dorsal for the Academy thing.

Also, if some of you guys could get us some good dimensions and photos of the ACMI Pods, let me know. We already have 48th ARDS Pods (NAVY & USAF) masters done, so these should be out soon. I'd like to ramp up the ARDS Pods to 32nd as well as get a start on the rail launcher mounted ACMI pods. Drop me a line if any of you guys can help.

Thanks Mike, you just gave me the last incentive to continue. Cheers

Guess I'll start off by mating the top of the tail of the Tamiya kit with the tailbase from Wolfpack. If I succeed, then I will go on and do the rest.

Got your PM, thanks!

The white ARDS Pods I've only seen here at Edwards, China Lake, Eglin, and Nellis (rare). Have you seent them anywhere else?

Yes, a couple of years ago at Shaw for testing. NAS Oceana used them, not sure if they still do or not.
Navy is using TCTS pods now, a naval version of the AF P-5.

Hey Boman, check out my building thread on IPMS Norway message board.

http://www.ipmsnorge.org/forum/index.php?topic=6751.0

I'm close to compleate that very project.

I took the block 25/32 kit, the Tamiya PE parts for the kit and the Wolfpack resin tail. There are some panels that need to be filled in. But in basis a Block 15 is as far as I know (I might be mistaken here) pritty close to a block 25 as far as the panel lines go.

I had to make a search light (russerlyset), but that was not to big a deal.

I've scratchbuilt a "robot" for the canopy (you know that little gizmo that works out the pilots head positon when he wears the HMTCS. Took a throttlegrip from a Hasegawa viper and cut it to shape, painted it black and added some wiering.

I'm working on the decals as I type this. I'm using a combination of Vingtor,Zotz and Hasegawa decals. I've also nicked a IRIS-T missile from a Revell EF-2000, and this is on station 8 aswell as a CAPAIM-9L on station 1 and C/L fuelbag..

I'l have it done by the IPMS east meeting next tuesday..

Sten Arne..

Hello Sten Arne - you just got me to register Laughing

How was it to get the Wolfpack design tail base to the plane body? Was there much to fill in order to get the right shape, or did you build up the curvage of the rear body and then sand it down?

This is my biggest fear with this conversion that I also plan to do. Fairly close on the loadout aswell Cool

Just sent aswerd your message on the Norwegian board, but for our english speaking friends I'l repeat it here Smile

The tailpart was one of my biggets nightmares on this project, but it turned out to be easier than I thougt. I just cut down the mounting logs and filled the whole thing with Milliput. Once dry I sanded it to shape and rescribled the panel lines. Well gave it a try anyways.
