Hey Guys, working on a few kits of the Viper in 48th, and I have noticed that the Has kit has the pylon for the 370 included as the standard pylon for the aircraft on stations 4&6... Now correct me if I am wrong, as my memory slips every few weeks.
I thought the 4&6 Pylon was Similar but not Identical to the pylon for the 37o.
Does anyone have any line drawings of the pylon so I can fix these to look right?
Also when did we go to the enhanced pylons for 3&7.
I have both the slick and the knobby ones, and was just trying to remember what was flown in 1985/86
Thanks again

Salute!
Seems to me that the tank pylon was "part of the tank", and not the same as that used for MER's ot TER's or parent rack eggs.
Need some ammo guys here.

Thanks Gums
I know it is an integral part of the Tank/Pylon unit.
What has me flummoxed is I can not find any pix of the 4&6 Pylon...
C'mon any BB Stackers here got any to share?

| The tank pylon is longer (front to back) than the 3/7 weapon pylon, as it goes all the way back to the rear spar. The 3/7 weapon pylon will also fit at 4/6, but I understand is not much used there, since fuel is usually carried there. Now that conformal tanks are available, there should be more usage of the weapon pylon at 4/6. When the 600 gallon tank is carried at 4/6, it uses the weapon pylon, not the 370 fuel tank pylon. |

The 370 external wing tanks are a unit and "BB Stackers" do not maintain them. Ether Fuel shop or tank barn takes care of them, Crew Chief installed them and normally Specs call them bad. The only thing Weapons do with them is the Jett check. They are several types and you can differentiate by how the carts are located, some vertical, some horizontal and other are in a angle. There are many photos here on this web site with the tanks. You can also look at many (insert name of what ever base here) af.mil photos and I bet you find several. I hope this helps in some way.

John, thanks, I know the Pylon is a little longer. I am looking for the actual pylon details...
Gaston, I have pictures of the 370 Tank and Pylon out the whazoo...
I know that 4&6 usually carry the fuel.
As to wing bags I know that Fuel Barn maintained them, CC's loaded them and I (B-Shop) said they were bad.
I know that Weapons does the Jett Check on the tanks..
Heck I helped Load and Unload enough when we had to change configs at the three bases I was assigned to...
I have been on AF.Mil... Which is why I am here asking...

So what are you asking?
You said you could not find any photos of the pylon

And now you have all the photos you need

You ask "BB stackers" for photos

But you know they don't take care of them

I'm sorry, I'm confuse. I know is not hard to confuse me but, I don't get the question then, sorry.
P.S.
There is no B-shop anymore, I think they got rid of the shreds in 1998 or 1999. IIRC |

Yep Gaston I am looking for the Pylon, Not the 370 Gal Tank and Pylon...
yes I am still Flummoxed, the pix you have reference to is the 370 gal Fuel Tank & Pylon....
Not trying to confuse ya buddy...
And yes I am asking BB Stackers.
Because who better to tell what a Pylon looks like than those that hang the bombs on them maybe some have some drawings from their CDC's.
Heck my B-Shop CDC's have beautiful drawings of the 370, and the 300 as well since I was responsible for Fuel indication....
I know that there are no shreds any longer... (I got out in 1992, So I still had a shred, Even tho I was qualified in A and C shop as well)
45252B
So as a wrap up...
I am looking for the Standard 4&6 Pylon all by its lonesome ...
Thanks again...

Thanks Loader.
Gonna guess by your handle you are a Weapons Troop...
One of my roomies at Misawa was a loader too, came off the A-10's and thought it was a demotion to come to the viper.
Seems that I am thinking there was a GD/LM Specific Pylon years ago that was for the 4&6 stations for carriage.
again I my be slipping in my old age.
