Question for everyone. When you are assigned to MTF or FTD for training, and the class is scheduled for more than a day, are you expected to return to your duty section if the class ends early for some one day one, but are still expected to be there the next day to finish up the rest of the course.
E.g. Block Training
I have always been under the impression that if you are scheduled for training for more than a day, then you belong to them until officially released (End of Course), and the words, "you are now released back to your duty section" are spoken.
I am just wondering because I went to MTF today for classes, and I have more classes tommarow, but I don't know if I had to go back to work today or tommarow. |

Well, that depends on what you want the rest of the troops in your unit to think of you. If you don't care what they think, and your class is less than eight hours (or however long your duty day is) then by all means skate. If you give a crap about your workplace and your coworkers, go back to your duty section, even if it's only for an hour or so. If in doubt, ask your boss, not this forum.
Best Regards, |

but it does state in AFI 32-2203 that block training is suppose to be scheduled away from the production side (when possible), which it was, I just didn't want to get into a position where I end up working a 16 hour day and expected to make training the same time the next day. Asking the boss, would be a right answer, but in my experience at this base, the boss is more interested in what they need to do to make rank and not whats in the best interest of their troops.
When I'm at work, I WORK. I don't skate out, or do the things that most people have experienced, but my question was not about work ethic, it was about training policies, and I'll simplify it this time, are you released to the duty section during multiple-day training after each training day completes, or after the training is completed on the last day of training? |

I was a MAT instructor for 3 years, great jb. But the answer is in some ways what Akruse said, some bases block training is 4-5 hours. If so do the training, eat lunch and get back to work. When I was at Ramstein NO one wanted the afternoon class, that meant they had to work the morning and still go to class.
Now we did some some classes that were 2-10 days. In most cases you belonged to us for those until completed. Only exception was if the flightline could not provide a trainer for the day and we would release you back to work.

Is your section chief really that big of an a$$ that you can't just ask him? Jeez... what a ridiculous question to ask in a forum. You really want some random person giving you guidance on a choice that, in an extreme manner, could be viewed as being AWOL or dereliction? Come on... |

Yup, engine run, DCC, and a few others are multi day classes and I always tell the younger guys that they belong to me until they are released from my control. They don't seem to have a problem obeying |

| Ok so I did ask my flight chief, and there was a mistake with their manning system and the second day of the MTF training was not loaded, so all is cool now, and BTW at the time I was asking I could not get a hold of my flight chief so I only asked the forum because their are people that have been in flight chief positions on this forum so I was only trying to get an answer from people that I thought would know. |
