| Hey, has either AA-1 or BF-1 gone up lately for their once-yearly flights? If this snails-pace keeps up, soon we'll have "how many LM engineers does it take to screw on a light-bulb" jokes. Apparently, about 1,000: 10 to examine the varying curvature of the glass, 20 to establish its circumference, 50 to determine whether the grooves are properly aligned... |

AA-1 flew on the 17th.
BF-1 now has more than 5 flights. Most recent attempt was on the 16th. Was at EOR, ready to go when weather hit. |

Hmmm...Seems to me that AA-1 has @ 45 flights in the book...just a bit more than the stated once a year...and BF-2 has 5 now...sounds like things are progressing rather nicely. These aren't Piper Cubs ya know...
Such negative waves...

BF-1 flew twice today (7 flight now) and did a touch and go after the second flight.
Good call Ztex, some folks are clueless. |

Just to clarify, my post before said that BF-1 had flown 'more than' 5 times.
So now it has flown 'more than' 7 flights.
Sorry for the confusion.... |

| Actually Friday's second flight was the 7th I think, no big deal. Did any of you locals notice the "SPOT" at the end of White Settlement Road was blocked off, thanks very much to the city of White Settlement for that. |

I guess they've got nothing better to do. I hear that in the days of GD the White Settlement police strictly enforced their speed limits on the main road leading into the plant. It got so bad that GD employees boycotted all White Settlement businesses. Soon after that the police put down their radar guns. |

Yep I heard about the spot. It seems that it was TXDOT that put up the new guard rail. I have not been out there since so I don't know how badly it is blocked.
Several years ago (20+) they had irregular get off the road side patrols. One day it was ok to park there and other days it was not..no rhyme or reason. Then they put up the guard rail and it wan not long before folks went around it. The same patrol policy was in effect. A fw years back they pile up a bunch of dirt on the spot, it was there for several months then they scraped it off.
I figured after 9/11 the spot would go away. But there has been more activity there in recent years than ever before.
I'm sure some TXDOT or city guy thinks it dangerous or unsightly for people to be parked on the dirt. OR there is some new security types at LockMart or Carswell that thinks they have something to hide... wich is all well and good if the base was in the middle of Nevada..not next to Walmart and between 2 major interstate highways...
I just hope the spot is not gone for good...that would be a shame....let's start a petition drive to pave it and put up a flag pole and historical marker a park like they had at DFW!
Rant over.... |
