As if the Air Force didn't have anything else more important going on...
...and as I recall, the USAF has had at least one officer who had a 'non-regulation' moustache while at a deployed location, and it didn't seem to hurt either the AF or General Olds all that badly.
Our maintenance officer down at MacDill in the late 80's pretty much ignored the moustache regulations "Just as long as you guys don't get carried away. Otherwise you look like a bunch of little Hitlers out on the flightline..."

There was a time in a place long ago where this would have resulted in the offender having to purchase a round or two of adult beverages whilst wreathed in clouds of cigar smoke. In those dim distant days even pilots could have full beards.
"Wearing of Moustaches"
Article 1105 of the Queens Regulations and Admiralty Instructions forbids the wearing of moustaches without beards by officers and men of the Royal Navy.
Naval reservists of the RFR and RNSR are permitted to continue to wear their moustaches while performing their short periods of naval training (RFR seven days every other year: RNSR twenty days each year) but not when called up for service.
Royal Marines may wear moustaches, but not beards except in extreme climatic conditions or for medical reasons. |

| I personally think any stache that is within the Air Forces regs looks retarted. Sorry if you have one of these, but it looks stupid, you look like a little Hilter fan. The Air Force needs to either loosen up on the whole mustache thing, or do away with them totally. |

I think the Air Force knows the 35-10 moustache is ugly and Hitleresque. It would look much better if the lines were horizontal from the edge of the lips instead of vertical. USAF doesn't care; they don't want moustaches, but enough people want them that they had to come up with some rules.
When I was in the ANG (USAF, too, to be quite honest) I did everything I could to get away with a non- 35-10 moustache. I'd make it 35-10 for drill weekends, but then it would somehow manage to grow back out rather quickly after drill. It wasn't until deep in the F-16 days that my unit started trying to enforce the rules on civilian days. By that time I was short enough to not pay much attention to it. I bet my unit's having fun with moustaches at Langley!! |
