All,
I need a little assist here in solving an argument and don't have the TO handy. Is a mirror required by the TO for an inlet inspection on preflight for a Block 25? If somome has the reference number that would even be better. Been too many years since I worked 25's.

Thanks,

Dave

Wow as you get older your memory goes? How you doing? it's been awhile. And i would assume yes cause we needed the mirror on the GE's

Without a mirror how are you going to properly inspect the IGV's?

Cracks can grow from the anti-ice holes in the IGV's, and unless you’re Gumby ... you can't look at them all without a mirror. You definitely need a mirror on 100's but that’s a block 30.

Yes with all the PW engines (-200, -220, -229) you should use a mirror.

Exactly for the reasons VarkVet stated but in the PW world we call them CIVVs. (Compressor Inlet Variable Vanes)

Hot compressor discharge air is pumped through them with the Anti-Ice on. Another reason a stuck Anti-Ice valve can cause compressor stalls. At high RPM if it doesn't shut off the air is so hot it affects inlet temperature and BANG! Shocked

Them vanes get hot when they're blown. Laughing

Thanks everyone - anyone have a TO reference calling out a mirror? The engine FIM didn't have a mirror requirement and I can't get to the -6 until mid-July.

GE -100 and -129's you definitely need a mirror at all times. How else will you manage to see the other side of the airfoil on your first stage fan blades? The requirement for the mirror should be in the 70FI in the 1st Stage Fan Blade Insp/Blending area. If not, you can always check I's and E's program book, if ya'll got one.

Man that sucks. No problem here if ours is stuck open. Per the F.I., download the fault, and keep pressing. It only becomes a problem when the valve is stuck closed. Ops check it and it's bad, motor pull to swap it out.

What's up TEG, been gone for a minute bra!!

Not sure about T.O. reference for it, try the 21-101. But I know that on the I/E class they say, "you have carry a mirror" and without, it would be hard to properly inspect the blades/IGV/CIVV like stated in previous post. Try calling the training flight, where they teach the class, or QA they would know better. QA is actually suppose to help with questions like this, they are suppose to do more than just write people up, and most of them do. Very Happy

I'm required to use a mirror when the crew chiefs find cracks on the the F110-100's IGV'S to do an NDI insp I work on in the block 30's our unit and our QA is very adamant about it. so I would think the same rule applied to the Block 25'as well
