I'm working on a project involving the interior of an F-16 wing. Does anyone have, or know where to find, detailed pictures or schematics of the construction of the wing? I am particularly interested in the design of the ribs and main spar.

Thanks,
Geoff

There is no main spar. There are 11 spars and 5 ribs. The spars are mostly continuous, and the the ribs are segments between the spars.

Thank you for the correction and description johnwill. Any high-resolution pictures or drawings though?

This Block 40 wing cutaway should give you the general idea.

Thanks for the cutaway. Unfortunately it doesn't show the leading or trailing edges too, but it's definitely helpful. I also found some good pictures from the technical section of the photo gallery -- though really too many to list here.

Also, in case anyone else is interested, I found a great book in the library. It's actually meant somewhat as a reference for model builders, but it has several pictures of the F-16 inside and out. It's called "F-16 A & B Fighting Falcon : In Detail & Scale" by Bert Kinzey.

I've never visited this site before a week ago when I started my project, but after browsing through the forums I have to say that the level of discussion and willingness of people to help is pretty much unparalleled by any other forum I've visited. Thanks much for the help, I think even after my project is done I'll be coming back here just to learn more about this incredible aircraft.

Hey Geoff,

What is your project? As far I'm concerned I like a wing that doesn't come off in flight.

Geoff,
The LEF and TEF are secondary structure, made of full-depth aluminum honeycomb and aluminum skins, all bonded together. There are spars and ribs bonded and fastened to distribute the load from the surfaces into the hinge points. The fixed trailing edge shown in the drawing is made the same way.
