Outdoors, Halon won't cause any problems, even with the oxidation potential of making the fire bigger....the point ought to be to move the thing from where it might do damage until it burns out. I'm impressed he was on the ball enough to react fast enough to get to it before it snuffed. Insanely hot burning object + fully fueled/armed fighter jet = no bueno.

I seem to remember in the weapons safety brief which said something like fight fire until fire fighters arrive. I guess you do what you can when you can, and worry about writing after lessons learned.

1.1 fires are fought only in the event of a rescue attempt. 1.2 only if in the early stages of the fire. 1.3 depending on what it is I'm running. Willie Pete would be nasty. Hate to be near that stuff burning.

I played ATS for ICT’s for numerous years and the time limit (run your a$$-off time) for fighting fires started after flames enveloped munitions. When the MK 20 was involved the brief was 4000ft within 1-2 minutes.

During recurring weapons safety classes taught by LSS, they always slowed down when Mk 20’s were involved. Basically put the fear of God into you.

I would have passed Carl Lewis down the backstretch and cleared the 6ft. bob wired fence like Mike Powell if I saw a 20 start to fizzle off.

Da Rock-eye was a badass munition.

Probably brought this ban into perspective?

They did away with the 4000 feet within 2 min thing, never would have worked anyway. You still withdraw to 4000 just as fast as you can now.
I'm to old to run far now, I look for cover Very Happy
MKopack had the best answer so far, jets can be replaced, people are always more important.
