I'm working on a 1/72 Norwegian Falcon and have a question? I've seen several photos with air to air missiles (AIM120/AIM9 mix) on 1,2,3,7,8,9 weapons pylons.

On stations 3 and 7, can you mount an LAU129 air to air missile rail on the normal weapons pylons(PIDS included) those locations or do you have to use the set up with the smaller adapter that is used on stations 2 and 8? Also can the IRIS-T be mounted on stations 1 and 9?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Rolling Eyes

IRIS-T (Infra Red Imaging System Tail/Thrust Vector-Controlled) is a German-led program to develop a short-range air-to-air missile to replace the AIM-9 Sidewinder. Any aircraft capable of carrying and firing Sidewinder is capable of launching IRIS-T.

Not my favorite source but will do for this.

Hi there Smile

depening on what kinda mission you want to depict for your viper, the most common configs are as follows:

Training:
AIM-120's on 1/9
IRIS-T on 2 or 8
2 x370 on 4/6

Panthera and PIDS is optional

*
IRIS-T on 2 or 8
CAM-9L (Dayglow or blue) on 1 or 9
C/L 300 Gasbag

..
Operational/ QRA

AIM-120 (Hot) on 1/9 or IRIS-T on 2/8, or AIM-9L on 2/8, But seldom both BVR and IR missiles on the same jet. One flies with IR and one with BWR missiles on QRA

either 2 x 370 or 1 x 300 USG Gasbag, depending on time of year and training cycle

PIDS and Panthera/Sniper are optional

*
Air/ground training

GBU-12 on 3/7, occationally 2x GBU-12 on TER on 3/7
AIM-120 on 1/9 or CAPM-9L on 2 or 8

Gasbags as requierd but usually 2x 370 USG

occationally LAU pods (19 x CRV) x 2 on TER, mounted on 3/7 are used.
*

NATO mission at Manas, KZ

Hot AIM-120 on 1/9 or AIM-9L/IRIS-T on 2/8
GBU-12 on 3/7
2 x 370 gasbags
PIDS
Sniper/Panthera (note in 2003-2005 RNoAF borrowed Lightning pods and these where used on 5R)
ECM pod (ALQ-131) on canterline

LAU-129 rails have been standard since late 90's
Almost all of our jets are M4 or M5 so they have instaled JHMTS gear

During the Kosovo conflict RNoAF vipers had as follows

AIM-120 (Hot) on 1/9
AIM-9L (Hot) on 2/8 + 3/7
2x 370
ALQ-131 on CL
Lightning on 5R

Hope this helps Smile
