Hi, I need some help from you guys. Im scheduled to leave for BMT June 17th without a guranteed jobs and I know my scores are high enough. Im in open mechanical and my recruiter is a douche and says he cant get me a guranteed job which I know is total BS!

Now i know im in the DEP but I can still get out its not final until I leave.

Aptitude Scores-Mech-87, Elec-81

So when I go talk to a different recruiter which im going too once I get some feedback. I want to know the AFSC's for the jobs I want to get into im thinking of Avionics and Crew Chief on the F-22. Can you give me your opinions on these two jobs, AFSC's for them and a description of them please.

94, I would say your chances of working the Raptor are fair but not guaranteed. The Raptor is part of the f-16 career fields so if you wanna do avioncs, look into the 2A3X2 AFSC. This is what I do. I worked the viper for a few years and I'm on the Raptor now. It was as simple as logging in to AMS (assignment management system) and volunteering for a posting for this job. Got orders two months later right before I went to the desert. The 2A3X3 AFSC is the crew chief career field. You would be less likely to get raptors with this career field. You may not even get fighters period. Structural maintenance like AFMike is another avenue but again you might end up in a sheet metal shop working C-130s. I would say you best bet is to chose avionics (2A3X2) for the simple reason that it only includes a few aircraft. F-16/F-22/CV-22/Predators/F-35. With the other jobs (crew chief, structural) you are open to a wide variety of aircraft and you opportunity to work Raptors diminishes. Do not chose the F-15 avionics career field if avioncs is what you wanna do. You will not be able to work raptors. 15's are 2A3X1 and the Raptor is in the 2A3X2 career field. You may end up working the viper of the other aircraft but you have a very good chance of working the Raptors. With the Raptor bed down at Holloman later this year, they are going to need troops. This might make your chances better.

As far as your recruiter goes, if you really want a guaranteed job, tell him that you will not join unless you get guaranteed. Do not let him pressure you by saying "you already signed the papers". Until you get on the plane to leave for basic, you are not obligated at all. Just simply say "Ok, if you can't get me my job, I'm out." That's all you got to do and stick your guns. They have quotas to fill and if you threaten to back out it makes him look bad to his supervisors. They are some of the slimiest people in the AF.

AFMike, yes you can have a guaranteed job. Mine was guaranteed when I came in and I know a lot of people that came in guaranteed. You just have to know how to hold out at the recruiting office. They just tell you that to get you in, they don't care in the slightest what job you get. They throw you in open general and tell you based on your test scores that you will be able to get what you want once you get to basic. Completely false. The AF will give you whatever job is needed and open. I held out for 10 months until my recruiter got me my job.

If you have anymore ?'s feel free to PM me.

You can tell him to hold out all you want but times have changed since you came in. There are more people that want to join the AF than the AF needs. You tell your recruiter you won't go in unless you are guaranteed, chances are he'll show you the door and move on to the next 5 willing candidates. If you want some good info answered by folks who know what they are talking about, head over to afforums.com

OK gents, keep yur master arm on safe! Smile It's all good, I think you are all saying different things so in fact there is NO conflict!

akruse21 is saying: it is possible to get 'guaranteed' if one negotiates smartly (and I assume if one has a good enough score) but because of supply and demand issues, not everyone is presently guaranteed.

AFMike11 is saying: Sure, everyone is 'allowed' to get guaranteed (best of luck to all negotiating), but in the specific case of 94Formula... he could only hope his recruiter is willing to change the contract, at this late stage (it is already signed as open mech) and that if his recruiter is not willing to change it, then he has to gamble on a complete re-application with no 2nd time guarantees.

RaptorDCTR is saying: Yes, it is possible for all recruits to get 'guaranteed' at first signing, conditional on how the said recruit first negotiates and is willing to hold out. He apparently was willing to hold out 10 months before signing his preferred contract and in his case it worked.

So my personal advice to 94Formula bro: as you've stated... you've signed it as you have. Now you need to seriously reflect on what your intentions and will is to do. Either hold to your contract, do your duty to the AF and work it out from here on as smartly as you can, or take a big gamble accordingly and play hard ball for your personal interests. If anything, you can give better advise to the next guy signing up! Regards-

Right on geo!

AFMike, sorry bro....bad morning, GF pissed me off enough to make my blood boil so instead of tying her to the tail gate of my truck and driving at mach speed down the interstate and laughing while she bounces in and out of view from my rear view, I got on here and blew up. No hard feelings man. geo is right, we were on the same track just going different directions
