Wow I had a miniature shock when I found out that the new helmet is actively being used by CONUS, PACAF and USAFE Viper units, what rock (or desert) have I been living under?
I have tons of questions;
Is the fielding of this system complete? Does it only provide cueing for -9X for now? What is the vital data projected to the right eye? Does it render HUD unnecessary? Is it heavier than the older helmet? Could it possibly replace our old @$$ IHADSS helmets? |

| Almost, completely fielded. Just a couple of Active duty units waiting for the CCIP upgrade to be completed. No it cues a lot more than the 9x. If you can see it and place the reticle on it, the item your looking at can be designated with some type of system. It has several declutter options, but will provide airspeed, helmet heading, altitude, weapons cueing, target cueing, steerpoint information and link information plus other stuff. No it doesn't replace the HUD (my opinion). It takes getting used to for the older guys, but younger guys will probably adjust more rapidly to the display. It has awesome capabilities that will get realized once 9X is proliferated. It is heavier, but not horrible, the cable that connects it to the jet is bulky but you forget about it once you start flying with it. Last, don't know much about your IHADSS helmets other than they seem very big and bulky. |

Thanks for the basics F16guy. Is the training for the helmet unit level or they do that at B-course now?

They do seem like that though they are very light, daytime flying includes the bigger visor and that is contained with a bigger cover, while night flying with goggles, they remove some of that bulkiness, including the big cover and visor within. Our difference is that the display is a separate piece which is removable from the helmet. But JHMCS joins them both. One piece. Also IHADSS projects FLIR image to the eye piece, maybe this is another difference. I would definitely want to see JHMCS implemented in our units. |
