Who saw the special this weekend from PBS?
http://www.pbs.org/weta/carrier/

Did anyone catch the part where an Iraq fishing boat was sinking and the Nimitz crew saved them?
The first thing they said to the crew was "who is going to pay for our boat?"
WTF

Was there anyone who saw the show as pissed as I was over the attitude of the people towards the US military, the people we liberated?

What did you expect? We're probably viewed more as Overlords, not Liberators.

The Afghanistan mission should have been completed first before even thinking about Iraq- now we're stuck in both places at once.

It looks like a classic case of buying loyalties from these people. Once the money stops the loyalty ends but now they expect money all the time, just like a blackmailer.

Unfortunately that's the attitutde of just about everyone over there when it comes to Westerners (at least it was my impression). We're all millionaires to them. To bad it's not true. Wink I got accosted by a carpet seller near the Blue Mosque in Istanbul once and after several minutes of explainin' to the guy real polite like that I wasn't JR Ewing I managed to extricate myself from the situation.

I'll give the Navy brass some credit tho. It was a gutsy move to give 'em as much access as they did. We all know military life ain't always what's in the brochure. For some it's a good decision. For others....not so much. It just increases my admiration for those that willingly choose to go in that direction knowing what it may entail.

God Bless 'em all! Salute Thanks

I really liked the ten hours of the program, with one exception. The 'pitching deck' segment was my favorite part in that entire ten hour program. Even my wife was in awe watching the twenty some minute sequence on the pitching deck. After being on a cruise ships and how smooth it was, I was surprised to see how much a carrier (50% heavier than most cruise ships) moved in heavy seas. The one thing I found interesting is an aircraft approaching and having a 'bolter' because ship movement, not anything the pilot did wrong. In the past I have seen many programs/movies showing planes landing in bad weather. This was the first time I saw a 'reference' as to how much the deck was really, really moving. You Tube has some nice carrier landings at night but, nothing like this.
I did think that doing the pitching deck landings should have been done where some divert field was available. There were several relatively new pilots, like the female pilot who was stopped by her CO from going up that night.
Or the pilot who could not re-fuel from USAF tanker and had to divert to a land base (when they were in the Persian Gulf).... on a pitching deck with no divert field the crew would have had to eject from a new F/A-18F!
I was surprised by what a pilot goes through when he has to use a divert field landing.

It is pretty well known in most places in the world, if any American does something you didn't like, there is a way to file a suit against the US Government and a lawyer to assist you.

From a posting I made on another website;

Nice insight. -Adrian

"I don't understand why we're over here fighting for other peoples freedoms, when we barely have any ourselves". Wanted to throw that chick off the boat when she said that.

I didn't see the show but if some enlisted Navy chick said that, she should get her a$$ kicked and then kicked out of the service. We don't need anybody like that in.
