In a surprising about-face, South Korea has announced that they will abandon the GE F110-129 engine during their next purchase of KF-15 fighters, and elect instead to install P&W F100-229 engines in these aircraft:

Korea already flies the F100-229 engine in their KF-16 fleet, and it was a surprise in 2002 when Korea became the first customer to order the F-15 with a GE engine. Apparently the romance has not been sweet. The follow-on buy of 21 KF-15s will return to the tried-and-proven F100-229. |

Some additional details of the engine switch have emerged in the latest edition of Flight International's on-line site:

According to the article:

P&W will supply the F100-PW-229EEP with the previously undisclosed enhanced engine package (EEP) for the second batch of aircraft.
The EEP upgrade offers a huge boost in reliability, raising time between overhaul from 4,300 cycles to 6,000 cycles, says a P&W spokesman. The package also adds a real-time health monitoring system and upgraded digital electronic engine control (DEEC) system.

Sounds like '97 package, and the new Group 6 DEEC at least.
I wonder what else is part of "enhancement"  |

Pratt & Whitney has provided an official press release for the ROKAF win:

With regard to the engine configuration selected, the press release reads as follows:

Incorporation of the F100-PW-229 Engine Enhancement Package (EEP) — successfully demonstrated in 2004 — will lead to increasing the engine depot inspection interval from seven years to 10 years. With the extended interval, the EEP configuration will provide up to a 30 percent life cycle cost reduction for the engine. The EEP will also offer significant safety benefits, reducing the predicted in-flight shutdown rate by up to 25 percent. The F100-PW-229 engine is the only fighter engine funded and qualified by the U.S. Air Force to the 6000 cycle interval capability.
