Air Force must do more for war, Gates says
Pentagon chief: Getting aircraft to Iraq, Afghanistan 'like pulling teeth'

Gates slams AF for using pilots for jobs robots can do.

"He indicated that the Air Force's desire to use pilots for its missions has kept the Defense Department from employing more effective and lower cost unmanned aircraft."

No way! An Air Force headed by career pilots for the most part is resistant to turning over jobs to robots? GASP!

Why is it that you have to be a "pilot" to drive those things? It would seem to me that there is a different skillset involved between flying F-16s and predators. Why would they not recruit and train people to exclusively fly drones? I've seen the preds at work.....they are pretty much hands free....a kid with decent eye/hand coordination is a wiz with 'em.

FAA won't allow them to be driven by folks without pilot training.

That could change with a stroke of a pen.

Could, but probably won't.

I KNEW it had to be a gubmint thing, LOL! I didn't see a lot of similarities between piloting a plane and driving the pred.....it really was just like a computer game.

But who is going to have the stroke? And what you mean by pin?? Wink

Believe me no friends of mine want to fly those things. I'm all for 'robots' doing the job.

The FAA is not easily swayed by rational arguements or ideas from the military.
