Push it up what does this saying mean?

Get faster. Sometimes you hear it when a formation is trying to rejoin, as in, "Hey 2, push it up!"

Back when the Blue Angels were in F-4Js, they were performing a show in Ontario, Canada. After their famous "Delta Break" manuever, #1 noticed that one of the solos (#6, IIRC) was lagging a little for the crossover. For our purposes, we will say it was #6, as I don't recall which aircraft it actually was.

#1 Called, "6, push it up a little!" #6 lit the afterburners, and was still in a shallow dive, ready to crossover center point simultaneously with the other five jets...only he kept it in burner a little too long. He broke Mach pulling out of the dive, and the shockwave went back towards the city, and broke just about every glass window on Main Street! Shocked

If any one says "Push It Up" the reply should be "All the Way". It is catch phrase used by the 35 FS Pantons in Korea. It has always meant push the envelope, go faster, give it all you have...

Push It Up is also used in formation Take-off and landing when the wingman requests the lead aircraft to fly faster. Imagine a situation during Take-off where the wingman is almost overtaking the lead aircraft. The wingman has three options.

One, pull the power back a bit (but only a bit since there is a risk involved in taking off with less then full power) and see if that stops the overtake.

Two, If the power reduction is not enough, give a quick call to lead to "Push It Up" and see if the lead aircrafts acceleration solves the problem.

Three, If still overtaking, keep your own side of the runway and perform an individual Take-off. Then wait for lead to direct a rejoin.

The opposite phrase of "Push It up" is "Give Me One". Normally most leads will tell you that you can only say "give me one once during Take-off. This is to prevent to low powersettings that are unacceptable for a Safe departure.

I'we also heard it used during climbs/descents with dissimilar configured aircrafts where it is used by the wingman to tell lead that it is difficult to keep up/hang on.

Push It The F--- Up. The Punks are the lieutenants in the squadron. The sign is the same as the Hawaiian "Hang Loose." We also live by the saying "that sh--'ll buff out."

"Push it up" is also a code word for your behind in the drinking so get caught up Dumb A$$.....or if it's said as "Let's PIU" then that's an endearing term for let's get drunk, not that we Fighter Pilots would ever do that but.....back in the day I heard they did...!!

Yeah, that was the 35th call back then, though I recall the Juvats doing some of the same back then (94)

I once banged the Sierra out of my hip getting down off the bar stool when some jack@$$ called...the other word for "Deceased Insect". No lingering effects from that, but it kinda smarted when I hit the ground. Laughing

A couple of my buddies took mercy on me and bought me beers for taking a dive so courageously. Razz

Just another example of that other squadron at Kunsan taking a perfectly good string of words and tainting it forever! Might as well start painting their tails GOLD, give up the fat canadian school teachers for good, and stop taking the cable every damn day! Oh wait...that will never happen!

Normally that saying is used by #2 in a formation takeoff to indicate to #1 he can add more power.

You mean like stealing the 366th Fighter wing's motto to make it a squadron motto? Great Job.

The real question is .....What is Pink! The JV's (Junior Varsity) at Kunsan.
