| They are used as maintenance trainers. Sheppard is where most if not all of the basic aircraft maintenance training is done for the airforce. When I was there in 1992 I don't remember working on any F-16's, I do remember working on F-4's A-10's and F-15's. Info I have grabbed from this site seems to suggest that the F-16's did not get to Sheppard until around 1994. Hope this helps |

| I am a crew chief (civ) on the training aircraft at Sheppard. we currently have 8 GF-16As, 4 GF-16Bs, and 7 GF-16Cs. They are used for all kinds of maintenance training including Crew Chief School, Avionics, Wpns, and E&E schools. There are 2 more (1 "A, 1 "B") being used for POL training but they are concidered "trainers". We have 4 A/Bs being dismantled, I don't know where they are goin. We also got 1 "B" model that is cut up to just a fusalage and cockpit used for an engine removal trainer. And lastly we have one (80-0481) on static display at the parade grounds. but I think it is still considered a training aircraft. |

I was part of the 1st Full up Delta II F-16 course at Sheppard in 89, which directly followed the basic Crew Chief school. I was actually plucked from the F-4 course; probably the reason why I ended up at Clark for a few months before making it to Misawa.
There were two Block 25 maintenance trainers we were trained on. I took some pics of the jets, so I'll have to dig those up. I even recall the instructors; SSgt Goff and TSgt Lamb.
