F-16 and F-22 are not the same!

F-16A was made as a light weight fighter, an standard plane. However, F-22 is... is amazing. The F-22 was made to be the best air dominance fighter, actually F-16 wasn't designed to be a half of that in its time.

Regards.

What kind of question is this? The F-22 is supposed to replace the F-15 and the F-35 is made to replace the F-16. Nothing can truly replace the F-16, though.

I think the real issue is, will the F-22 and F-35 be able to replace it?

First you have to answer "How much are you willing to spend?"

I can tell some people here ara a little slow, thanks rhertzCAP for the link. I think it's great to have the guard -16s evolve into a -22 squadron. This relieves some of the flying burden from the 27th when both the 27th and 94th are at their 18 PAA each. There will not be the abundance of -22 pilots as the other bases come online. Also, it allows the ANG to get some well deserved recognition.

This isn't a money issue as much as it is a ANG vs. Active Duty flying in support of each other and supporting each others' missions both here and, when time comes, abroad.

well, it doesnt actually replace the viper. the VA ANG is just switching to the raptor. it's a usual thing for ANG units to switch their airframes every now and then. sometimes they even switch from fighter to cargo jets or something.. so u cant say the raptor replaced the viper. it's just that unit that switched airframes.

It's key to note that the 192nd is going to share iron with the 1st. I am sure the 192 is going to want an airplane with their tail flash on it. I know the reserve units have multiple squadron markings on their airplanes in the instances that a reserve unit shares iron with an active duty squadron.

The Air Force is undergoing a major change. Air to air roles are being taken over by the F-22, while air to ground roles are being split between the F-35 and multiple types of UAVs.

The F-16 is in the same spot right now as the P-51 was in the Korean War. Its not the highest performance aircraft out there anymore, but its extremely usefull.

Probably won't get a bird with their tail flash on it. The whole F-16 unit from Richmond will eventually move to and absorb into the 1 FW.

Yeah, it's actually funny that alot of the guys who fly with that unit have lived in Hampton Roads because the schools are better. Their commute is going to go from about 45-60 minutes to about 15..

We have seen Guard units have F-16s replaced with KC-135s. That doesn't mean that the KC-135 will do the same type of missions done by the F-16. Twisted Evil Very Happy Laughing
