The videos seem to make it the pilot's fault.

"thought he was over a Kansas field..." What!? Doh

Nothing like the press release citing that indications showed all 6 bombs were released over the range (field) but only 5 impacts were observed.

They can't even get the bomb/missile thing right!?

Notice how they zoom into the bomb to make it look huge in one video, but the other shows someone actually holding an example?

Gotta' love the press... Rolling Eyes

My favorite is still the one where an airman's Vette got a practice bomb through the hood- while he was driving down the road. Laughing

D@mn Sferrin, you beat me to it! Laughing That was a MacDill bird, and yes, that was a brand-spanking Corvette (1987, IIRC).

Missile, bomb, rocket, whatever. Today's media types are proud of their complete ignorance of military affairs, probably don't even know anyone in the military, and love to belittle those who are. They take initial reports, willfully misunderstand them, and run with it. You're right, they clearly try to make the pilot look like a dangerous fool.

Loader--do you expect anything less from the most liberal establishment this side of academia?

Notice that in the press, airplanes never "crash"; they "slam" into the ground.

I think that this kind of liberal license taken with the english language is meant to help sell papers and sensationalize the incident. It smacks of yellow journalism to me...

Back when we had A-7s, the local paper did an article on us. They mentioned that the unit "flies the Vought A-7D attack aircraft, which is capagle of subsonic speeds...". I have to admit I got a chuckle out of that one--anybody ever met an airplane that WASN'T capable of subsonic speeds?

All I know is that FY 08 isn’t going well as far as incidents are concerned. Until things change for the better the media is going to have a field day.

Is an "aircraft capable of subsonic speeds" any different than an "non-assault weapon"? Shrug

Does anyone have a weapon that dosen't assault? Doh

I've always wished I could ask some follow-on questions to the reporters. "No kidding, fell all the way to the ground when it dropped... How did it get all the way to the ground from that high up? Was something else involved? Is there something you're not telling us? Do you think this is cover-up or conspiracy? Have you contacted Sir Newton about this; did he give any comment?" Slap

FYI I have a sub-sonic car... LMAO

Sounds like a good hit though- they should paint an apartment building on the aircraft.
LMAO

Sorry, I couldn't help it- but at least nobody got hurt! Whistle

Thinks fall off aircraft and gravity works.

During flight tests with the YAV-8B we put a winder (dummy luckily) into the golf course at Pax River, the Admiral and the golfers were less than pleased, another time we put a MK82 (dummy again) onto the beach on the 4th of July weekend.

We would appreciate the humor in that, but I'm sure the civilians and/or media involved would not... Whistle

So in the the name of good humor, since nobody was hurt, which new "Kill Mark" should be authorized?

The Naval Reserve unit at NAS Atlanta once lost an A-7 into an apartment building with at least one fatality. I can't to this day ride past the pole mounted A-7 at their gate without thinking "apartment bomber."

On a lighter, crazier not, I had a dream about loading BDU's last night.
