Seen today on the USAF site:

3/14/2008 - LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. (AFPN) -- An Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon assigned to the 62nd Fighter Squadron here crashed about 12:00 p.m. today south of Alamo Lake, Ariz.

At the time of the accident, the F-16 was on an air-to-air student training mission. One pilot was on board. The status of the pilot is unknown at this time.

A board of officers will be convened to investigate the accident.

As soon as additional details become available, they will be provided.

Ouch 62nd is getting hammered. Hopefully when they get their new birds (63rd CG's) things will go better. I am praying that the Pilot is safe.

ISTR foreign Viper drivers train at Luke AFB, such as Singaporeans and Taiwanese?
I wonder if the accident pilot happens to be non-American?

We will be getting the 61st's low airframe hour; high FMC rate jets. a number of our acft are to BRAC within the year. the 61st will be BRAC'ing a few of theirs as well. the jets are old... i am very pleased to say that our maintainers do an awesome job with these aged acft.

Quote:
The Air Force pilot of a F-16 that crashed Friday near Phoenix is unlikely to have survived, an Air Force source has told FOX News.

The source said a witness saw the plane go down but no parachute, and the crash might have occurred when the pilot lost consciousness due to flying conditions.

A definitive cause of the crash and the condition of the pilot still aren't available.

The crash occured at about noon Friday south of Alamo Lake, Ariz., during a student training mission out of Luke Air Force Base. The pilot was the only person on board.

I hope they're wrong!
