Not if it was a collaborator- it could have had a rider with a portable SAM on it.
I'm sure there have been cases...

No disrespect intended, but are you sure about that?
Quite sure. Here's the pic of the bird that did it too. 63-320, "Hanoi Hustler".

BTW, it's final kill total was 3 MiG-17s, one by M-61, one by AIM-9, and one by a well-placed, pickled MER.
ACIG is lacking some important numbers. About 5 Thuds claimed MiG-17s with AIM-9s. They don't credit any kills to 320. One of the most famous MiG killers, and they don't get credited with a single one on ACIG's site. |

That's strange, as the 27 kills were from the Air Force list of downed enemy aircraft in Vietnam that I've seen in a couple of publications. If I am not mistaken, even Col. Jack Broughton said they only scored gun kills. Thanks for showing the pic, I will have to look up that F-105 on the listings! |

A tanker at Loring had a Bullwinkle painted under the left cockpit window after striking a moose on the runway during a landing roll out. The moose head was subsequently stuffed and hung in the O-Club.
Because the tanker was messed up also, somebody then painted a tanker silhouette on the moose's left antler.
Or so the story goes...10% rule applies |

*A little off topic*
What constitutes a kill being the topic, I've seen lots of kill markings, stars, guns, flags, aircraft silhouettes, roundels, but what a Camel Marking kill stands for? (Enviromentalists will be pissed if the AF managed to shoot/bomb/kill a camel)
Not off topic at all.
The Camel denoted trips "Over the Hump" in Burma during WWII.
Nowadays denotes any ground target. The more PC bomb silouette serves as well.
I want the story about the road grader painted on the side of an F-16. |

I kind of liked the Texaco stars on the A-6E Intruders from Desert Storm for doing refueling hops- that's taking one for the team, especially during a shooting war!
I miss those planes too. |
