| From the video's I've seen the bays are open far longer than advertised (fraction of a sec etc...). I assume this is due to it being a test and such, can anyone confirm? Also, in those tests it does not seem like any pneumatic actuators are being used, only as if the AMRAAM is falling via gravity. The same goes for the AIM-9 tests; they open the bays, push out the rails and launch the missile. No actuators and a slow process, I assume in real combat this will not be the case? |

| I do not think anybody will give you a straight answer since giving a straight answer probably is in violation of OPSEC. |

| Saying whether or not Raptors use actuators and whether or not missile launch is faster than public videos is a violation of OPSEC? |

Well I think I have to agree with RockyController, it's probably a violation of OPSEC. But let's be honest, i'm not sure... But it tells something about how the systems work (like fire control and such), so it probably is a violation of OPSEC. But to be really sure you will have to ask one of the old hands on this site (like Meathook, That_Engine_Guy and checksixx to name a few).
Regards,
Tim |

It's not OPSEC as it's been published numerous times. The main bays use actuators to shove the AIM-120s away from the aircraft and the AIM-9's are rail launched. The AIM-9s would probably be in the wind for a few since the seeker has to have time to lock onto the target. Lock On After Launch capability will reduce that in the future. |

Certainly looks like the AMRAAM is getting kicked down by something more than gravity to me. |

| I was just being careful based on some recent incidents involving the F-22 and forums like this. |

Rocky - I think your right to be cautious, unless the information is released from the USAF Public Affairs (with their Stamp on it) I too would stay away from answering it or anything a bit technical in nature, better safe then sorry.
Plus, if the information had been released by the manufactured publicly under license or permission from the USAF, have the person that says that provide the published site link, after that review, I would feel better but just saying it's released without proof might be asking for possible trouble -
Remember, this is the most classified system the USAF has today, if they want information released, they will release it through the press of USAF site info...think about it.
Thanks |

| +1 on what Meathook said. I'll just say that the system operates as designed. I'm still waiting to see if any photo's are released from Combat Archer... |

The doors open and the missile fires. That's all that SHOULD be said about the system. If someone wants the information and it's truly released, either let them find it for themselves (since it's "open source") or cite your proof for saying it's not a concern in regards to OPSEC. Since it's been published "numerous times" I'm sure you won't have any problem citing your claim.
The only pictures that you'll most likely ever see from Combat Archer have been released on the AF's web site and Elmendorf's. |

ATC...I stand or sit...corrected, your statement is true, what we see now (production level aircraft) is already old school compared to that very cool stuff |

edit: BTW since I don't have access to $hit that's classified it's a safe bet I won't be blabbing about it. |
