I was watching Bill Engvall 15 degrees of cool today and he jokes about his flight with the Thunderbirds, and talks about the 9g pin.
I got to thinkin what does the 9g pin look like anyways. |

Salute!
late tonight, but I'll take a pic of mine and put it up.
It's a side view of the Viper and very small "9 g" inscription.
We all got ours after our first flight. The GD tech rep/PR dude had them ready.

In times past the GD tech rep was provided a supply of 9-g pins and a nice certificate that could be signed by the pilot for incentive riders. Nowadays we have to request the 9-g pins from Fort Worth and it is a lot tougher to get them. I have lots of the certificates, though.
I am sure that it is possible to get 9-g pins from your Tech Rep, just order early to allow plenty of time before the event if you want to have it in hand immediately after.
Best Regards, |

I think I deserve one for riding with Funkie in Las Vegas when we were out there for a Red Flag in 2000,next to his driving I think 9G's in a F-16's would be a walk in the park |

| someone should make a car sticker/magnet like the "13.1" marathon stickers I see! I would be a lot cooler to have a "I pulled 9 g's in a viper" than "I ran 13 miles" on my car!!! |

Updating an old but unique thread. Here's a photo of the 1986 9g pin and certificate.
A "9g pin" given for flying to the 9 g limit in an F-16. Given by the program office office of General Dynamics in 1986.
Certificate given by General Dynamics to F-16 incentive flyers in 1986. (photo by stargazer]

I have a stack of those old-style certificates and the new-style ones as well, and about twenty 9-g pins. They do look just like the photos above.

Best Regards,
Can you send a 9G pin to the F/A-18 pilot who departed controlled flight and somehow pulled 9Gs Or are they only for F-16 pilots and back-seaters? That F/A-18 was recovered undamaged, but needed a pretty extensive post-flight inspection program.
Isn't the F-16 and F-15 the only two US jets that were approved to 9Gs, and the Swiss F-18 (non-attack version) could be added in there? |

I'd imagine you might get contacted by someone that has lost theirs over the years, Joe.
I truly treasure mine. I pulled 9g's three times in the backseat of 80-0637 at Zaragoza Spain. It's something you never forget.
What does the new style look like?
