Found the following photos of #78-0065 with the following story Wing's iconic F-16 static to be restored, find new home

USAF F-16A block 5 #78-0065 (marked as 419 FW) that once welcomed visitors to the former 419th FW headquarters building is crane-lifted to the ground on October 2nd, 2008. The aircrafts landing gear was reassembled before being moved across base, where it will be restored over the course of several months, and relocated closer to the new 419th and 388th FW's headquarters.

Added a new one.

Newly on display, but any one near by who can grab a photo for us?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Good one Asif!

It's a small tail so it makes it a block 10 or less.

I know some F-16s left Sheppard recently for museums. I don't think this was one though.

I bet yeah it's 79-0296 which was sent to this base on November 4, 2004 and it's taken this long to get it ready for the pole.

One we already have, but some work being done on her to keep her looking in tip top condition.

Chris Gouveia and Jim Straube, contractors, strip the old paint off F-16A block 5 #78-0053 static display on October 5th, 2009 in Friendship Park. This project is slated for completion on October 9th, 2009.

Here is 75-0746 finally on a pole at the main gate at McEntire ANGB (SCANG). It was the second full production F-16 off the line. Took almost five years to restore and put on display.

Thanks for the information. That bird was our structural flight tester at Edwards for many years from 1977 on. It was heavily instrumented to measure loads and stresses all over it. It was the first F-16 to fly 9g, on its seventh flight. The test point was 7.2g, but the pilot forgot to set the g limiter to 7.2. After several years of severe usage, two bulkheads in the aft fuselage were found to be severed, so the airplane was retired from active flight testing. I was lead structures engineer for most of that series of tests, about 200 flights.

Looks like several changes were made during restoration to make it look like a current F-16. Added items are the big tail, the C model expanded vertical tail base, the blades in front of the canopy, the targeting pod, later vertical tail tip, and a new paint scheme.

God eye, Johnwill! I had not noticed any mods other than the big tail. I may be nitpicking here, but wouldn't 78-0002 be the second full-production F-16? Weren't the '75s FSD jets?

Combined these latest posts into the Preserved F-16s post and uploaded the photo to the gallery.

"Fighter jet moving day to block Ferguson"

Last updated: December 15, 2009 8:56 a.m.
The Journal Gazette

The 122nd Fighter Wing is moving two more aircraft to the front of the base this morning.

An F-84, flown at the unit from 1958 to 1971, and an F-16, flown at the unit from 1992 to the present, are joining an F-100 and an F-4 already mounted in front of the base.

(I don't know their serial numbers.)

It is an F-16 Air Force fighter jet, but don’t be concerned about sonic booms and sound barriers. This fighter, currently mothballed in Arizona, will be mounted on a pedestal in front of the new Airport Commission headquarters on Main Street.
