I checked the chart at the usual suspect (site).
http://ksa.axisz.jp/a2101Misawa.htm
Misawa AB, Aomori Prefecture.
F-16. WW 78-053.
"35 FW" on tail fin.
"City of Wenatchee" on tail fin root.
http://www.wenatcheewa.gov/
Why is it dedicated to Wenatchee, Washington, USA?
Also at Misawa AB is a F-16 tail fin monument.
Only "WW" and "35 FW". No serial number.
Yellow stripe on left side. Red stripe on right side.
http://ksa.axisz.jp/a2110.htm
Misawa Shi Oozora no Hiroba (Misawa City Sky Park), outside Misawa Aviation & Science Museum, Misawa City, Aomori Prefecture.
F-16A Block 1. WW 78-021.
Although it wears "35 FW" on tail fin, it was instructional airframe for ground crew.
BTW, do you count displayed/preserved XF-2 (FS-X) in Japan? |

Thanks Gamera
We do have a photo gallery for F-2 photos. So far no serial database yet. We will have one eventually once we get other stuff cleared away.
Tak shots anyway and we'll add them to the gallery. |

Thanks Rick
I updated both the photo caption and the serial number in the database. |

75-0752 Frontiers of Flight Museum, Dallas, Texas in lizard scheme (may not be on public display yet)
I've seen 752 on display in the museum (about a year ago) - pretty sure it is still inside on display. I have a tentative appointment to do a walk-around for an upcoming book project, I'll fwd a photo when that happens. |

Hi Jon
81-0816 is still preserved at Atlantic City, it's in good company along with a F-100F and F-106B. I will try to get a pic for you soon. They used to have the Nav lights come on at night but not any more.

| I have uploaded a photo of 78-0025 now preserved at the entrance of the VT ANG base in Burlington, VT. The aircraft was painted and dedicated during the 60th anniversary in August 2006. If I remember right, that particular plane was a load trainer with the 177th FW before it was sent to Vermont for display. |

That looks like one of the old posts that the F-4s used to sit on just inside the main gate. I bet one of the F-4s was taken down to make room for the F-16. Too bad it doesn't have 89th FS markings.
It is. They took down both F-4s and put up the Viper and an F-15A. Both jets have no markings to this date. I shot them both just a couple days after they were put up if you still want photos.
The MiG killer F-4 went to a museum in Georgia, while the other F-4 is parked outside the restoration hangar at the museum awaiting its fate.

] Why is it dedicated to Wenatchee, Washington, USA?
OK. I took a look around the Web.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misawa_Air_Base
'Misawa was the take-off site of the world’s first non-stop trans-Pacific flight in 1931. Clyde Pangborn and Hugh Herndon took off from Misawa on the “Miss Veedol” and landing 41 hours later in Wenatchee, Washington ? successfully crossing the Pacific Ocean non-stop.'
http://www.misawajapan.com/aboutmisawa/then-now.htm
"I guess you could say it all started back in 1931 when Clyde Pangborn and Hugh Herndon took off from Misawa’s Sabishiro Beach and arrived in Wenatchee, Washingtom 41 hours later, thus completeing history’s first non-stop trans-pacific flight. While there was no base here at the time, this is the first noted activity in Misawa's aviation history."
"The population is growing again. 1980s census figures show 40,165 folks living in Misawa. The military population is down almost half and sits at 3,100 and you can only get 203 yen for one US dollar. In 1981, Misawa and Wenatchee, Washington join in a Sister City contract to commemorate the first non-stop trans-pacific flight."
] We will have one eventually once we get other stuff cleared away.
I don't have the free time or I.T. skills (aeons ago, took a brief course to learn writing HTML codes in Notepad) to write up a F-2 page or three for this site, but if someone else volunteers to write up one, I can assist with contributing on-line resources (albeit resources in Japanese). 8D |

Joris, looks like you are correct about 78-0042 and 78-0061. And 78-0042, the photo we have of it, is during its time period as an instructional trainer. So we may need a photo of 78-0042 in its preserved location. |
