Comments: After an engine change, the reworked engine was ground tested. The aircraft jumped the chocks while in segment 2 afterburner. Maintainers failed to hook up the throtle linkage to the fuel control. Aircraft traveled across the ramp and onto soft ground where the gear was ripped off. The F-16's belly cut a 25 yard hole in the ground before coming to rest in a ditch. No injuries in this mishap.
I think this incident happened to acft 80-0527 instead. I was in the 62TFTS at Macdill and in 86 we got 527 back from depot . It had alot less airframe hours and had about 2 1/2 years of TCTO's due on it. The panels on the engine bay never fit right , the ventrals requiring 2-3 people to get on. We were always briefed on this accident and actually knew of the engine troop it happened to, he had to give safety talks , he had come off of BUFFS, didn't have much 16 experience.
