Two Cannon fighter squadrons to deploy for Air Warrior

January 12, 2004 (by Lieven Dewitte) - Cannon Air Force Base will have two of its squadrons leave base this month. The 524th Fighter Squadron left Saturday to deploy to Air Warrior, a training exercise at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, until Jan. 23.

The squadron departed with 12 F-16s and 131 people, including maintenance and support personnel.

Later in the month, base commander Col. Robert "Rowdy" Yates, who heads up the 27th Fighter Wing, will lead the deployment of six F16 fighters and more than 155 support personnel to a four-week joint allied training exercise to the undisclosed Arabian Gulf location.

According to Cannon Public Affairs, the pilots and planes, along with crew chiefs, maintainers and administrative personnel will depart in the early morning hours of Jan. 17 and 18.
