Eielson participates in exercise Commando Sling

October 28, 2003 (by Lieven Dewitte) - Eielson Air Force Base is sending 70 people including F-16 pilots and support personnel to Singapore for three weeks to participate in an annual air-to-air combat exercise called Commando Sling.
The training is designed to sharpen air combat skills, improve procedures for sustained operation at a non-U.S. base, and promote closer relations between the two air forces and nations, Eielson officials said.

The annual Commando Sling series began in 1990 to provide valuable combined air combat training for U.S. Air Force and Republic of Singapore Air Force units. The air exercise is conducted at Paya Lebar Air Base in Singapore.

U.S. Air Force F-16s and F-15s and Marine F/18 fighters will engage in dissimilar air combat training against the Singapore Air Force?s F-5 Tigers, A-4 Skyhawks and F-16 Falcons aircraft.
