September 1, 2003 (by Stefaan Vanhastel) - Zygo Corporation will soon commence delivery of the critical sapphire windows which will be used in the F-16 block 60's Integrated Forward-Looking Infrared and Targeting System (IFTS), which is being developed by Northrop Grumman.
Independent tests carried out under the sponsorship of the U.S. Air Force Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (now known as the Missile Defense Agency) have shown Zygo's sapphire finishing process to yield exceptionally high flexural strength. This results in superior window durability.
