RNLAF F-16 damaged at Kandahar

June 15, 2008 (by Asif Shamim) - The Dutch Ministry of Defence announced via its website that one if its F-16s sustained damage to its landing gear during a take-off from Kandahar airfield.

F-16AM #J-144 from 323 Sqn aborted its take-off and was slowed to halt by the airfields emergency arresting barrier system. The pilot remained with the aircraft and was unhurt in the incident.

The RNlAF are supporting ISAF operations in Afghanistan. The F-16 was departing for a sortie to support troops in the South of the country.

An accident enquiry board will check the damage and reasons behind the failure.
