388th AMXS recognized by headquarters

January 4, 2008 (by 1st Lt. Beth Woodward) - Airmen in the 388th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron were honored with Air Combat Command's mid-sized Aircraft Maintenance Effectiveness Award in November, highlighting the unit's work to generate F-16 sorties during training and deployments.
The squadron competed with 20 similar aircraft maintenance units in the command based on their accomplishments in fiscal year 2007.

From training exercises to Operation Noble Eagle homeland defense missions to Operation Iraqi Freedom, the maintainers ensured aircraft were ready for any tasking.

"These warriors made the mission happen," said Lt. Col. Geoffrey Bacon, 388th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron commander. "I'm extremely proud of the dedication and can-do attitude."

In addition to answering the nation's call to defense, 388th aircraft maintainers brought the latest technology to the fight.

F-16s with upgraded avionics and communications equipment under the Common Configuration Implementation Program deployed to the Central Command for the first time in 2007. Maintainers also introduced the Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod, a system that allows pilots to identify, track and guide precision munitions onto targets from extended standoff ranges.

"Our men and women excelled at every task levied upon them, both at home station and abroad--bring on the next challenge," said Colonel Bacon.

388th AMXS is the 388th Fighter Wing's largest squadron, housing over 800 Airmen and 70 F-16s.
