Turkey F-16 crashes - pilot ejected

September 11, 2006 (by Jon Somerville) - Around midday a Turkish F-16 went down in the northwestern regions of the country. Early reports are indicating an engine failure but at this point it is too early to tell.

Fortunately the pilot managed to eject and was rescued shortly after near Kazdaglari Mountain in Canakkale province

It is highly likely that the aircraft is a block 50 as the aircraft took off from Balikesir AB which has 191 and 192 Filo.

This is Turkey's third loss of the year with the first being in early January and the second being the mid air with a Greek F-16 in May.
